Surgery scheduled...am I crazy?

This is my first post here. I'm so glad that I found this sight!

Anyway, my drs office called today to say that they scheduled my surgery for June 11. This is just 3 days after our daughter's (our only child) wedding.

Now I'm not sure if this is a good idea. I asked my dr. to wait and schedule it until after the wedding because I need to to a lot of the planning since our daughter is away at school and will not be home until May 25.

I guess the good part is that everything will be over and she will be on her honeymoon and I can just focus on taking care of myself. I guess the other part is that I will be so busy in the days leading up to the wedding that I won't have time to worry about the surgery.

All I know is I want to have the surgery as soon as possible (long time battle with endometriosis) so I can get to feeling better.

Surgery scheduled...am I crazy?

I can tell you that waiting is the hardest part. I knew right after Thanksgiving that I needed surgery, but didn't actually have it until the end of February. That was my choice due to work/home commitments. I tried to keep myself as busy as possible so I wouldn't constantly worry. It worked until the last week or so before the surgery. But, I tend to be a worrier by nature.

I think that planning a wedding before surgery is a good thing. There will be so much to do you won't have time to think about surgery until after your daughter is married.

They say waiting is the hardest(and I am having days where I tend to agree) so in that aspect having something as a wedding to plan to fill your mind the next few months, then yes, I think it is a good idea.
(and your surgery is scheduled for my birthday so I have to say only good can come from that day )

Hi

Here is a link to the Endometriosis Support Forum where you can get support for your endo issues. Since Endo is not cured by a hysterectomy/oophorectomy, your recovery and HRT issues may need to be tailored to that issue.

Have you discussed the timing with your DH? What does he say? He knows you best and what the two of you can handle. Having two stressful things planned within days of each other is too much for some, but is the best thing for others.

s and Best Wishes,

Kay

yes the waiting is a pain in the.... well you know. The moment i found out about my fibroids, their locations, and sizes, the more I became aware of them. A total mind-job. I can almost hear them boggling around like bowling pins, when I exercise. Crazy - I know.

I am more ready for this than ever. I have accepted my fate, and it's time to get the ball rolling. But the timespan until my surgery is out of my hands. I will just make the most of it.

Good luck!!!!

Everyone handles stuff differently -- i think keeping busy planning the wedding will keep you from worrying over the surgery -- the waiting can be overwhelming. for me -- i was busy until the day before surgery.

start now by taking care of your self by changing your eating habits but in the midst of the planning -- plan some down time also -- a little pampering for yourself --

best wishes on your desicion

I think the wedding happening is the best thing - you will be too busy before to worry about your surgery and relieved and relaxed after to recuperate nicely. This could be a blessing in disguise. I know it worked for me: I was horrendously busy with work the week before and having got all my projects out of the way - could enjoy some guilt-free well earned down time. Good luck to you.

Hi there I agree with the other ladies that the wedding planning will help take your mind off things, and make the waiting easier. However, I had my wedding almost a year ago, and I was absolutely exhausted post-wedding. I remember my husband and I slept sooooo hard the night of our wedding lol. So just make sure that you are also taking the necessary time out pre-op to relax and get the required rest you need. Recovery can be alot more difficult if you are exhausted going into it. Good luck and hope all goes well.

I used to be from Puyallup!

The waiting was bad for me. I'd start wondering if I was crazy to schedule surgery. Or if my DH would be supportive. Or how I was going to do x, y, and z. I've discovered that the world & DH can get along just fine without me (wink).

One of the things I did was make lists and gather supplies I thought I'd like handy. You know, controlling something that could be controlled. And making and freezing lots of soups & meats. That way, DH wouldn't have to work too hard and if he happened to not take care of me very well, I could thaw out my own food.

You're going to do great, shellbear & renee & co. Once you get into pre-op, the worst is over. Hugs & best wishes, -Wendy
