I made it! I made it!!!
Well, I'm back from the castle, and I'm doing fine! I had a TVH on Monday morning and they let me go this afternoon. I had planned on having the epidural with Versed in an IV, but decided to go with the general anesthesia instead. THe anesthesioligist couldn't guarantee me that I wouldn't remember anything. So I went with the general, and I'm really glad I did. I was a LITTLE groggy afterward, but not sick or anything. And it really did feel like I was just asleep for about a minute and then I was in recovery. Ladies in waiting, I was the most panicky, freaked out person about this whole thing beforehand. But I'm here to say, it really is true. The waiting is the hardest part. You won't remember a thing. You'll fall asleep quickly and wake up in recovery. It really did feel like that. So don't worry yourselves to death. If I can get through this, believe me, anyone can.
Now I'm off to lay back down and be pampered. Good luck and best wishes to all the LIW's. You'll be fine!!!

Congratulations! I have a TVH scheduled for 7/25, and I really needed to hear your upbeat words. My dr prefers gas, and I was wondering about an epidural, but I think I'll let that particular issue rest - I definitely want HIM to be comfortable and relaxed so he can do his best work! I'll just snooze away.
How are you feeling? I, too, plan to only stay overnight. How was the ride home? How long was it? Did you wear any special clothes home? What should I take? Tell me everything!
Thanks again for the reassurance. I love this board and all of my hystersisters. You are wonderful! Prayers and best wishes for a speedy recovery for you!

I am so glad that it went so well for you!
My surgery will be soon and am very encouraged to hear that it will not be as bad as I think. I will still be a nervous hen the morning of surgery.. I am the first case of the day so my doctor should be as fresh as he can be.. hehehe
Take care of yourself and a speedy recovery.
Hugs,
Michelle

To Bettytwin
I had a LAVH/BSO on June 21st. I only stayed in the castle overnight. When I woke up, my bladder was working very well. They had to help me (and my IV) to the toilet about every 1-1/2 hours. I was able to keep my food down and was showing good BP and vitals, so they removed the IV about 24 hrs after surgery.
One really important thing is even though you have an IV, drink plenty of water. I found it soothing to my tummy with all the drugs they were giving me.
The hardest part of this has been the time at home when I can't do anything at all. I read these posts daily and have learned so much from them. Yesterday (day 12 post-op) I had tweaks, twinges and light pops while I was reclining watching a movie. No blood, though. I hope I'm playing my "cards" right.
I'm learning alot from mimicking my
Have a nice 4th.

That was so funny about mimicking your cat. Do you like to sit on the windowsill and bask in the sunlight??? hehehehe Just Kidding.. I have 2 of the furballs and all they do is sit in the sun all day long. One has long black hair and I do not know how he stands it.
Thank you again for saying about drinking water. I usually do, just not 8 glasses a day. But now I will! hehehe
Hugs,
Michelle

No swimming - gotta get sun somewhere
Just read your post, Michelle. I never thought about my sitting in the windowsill, but that's an idea (I've got cabin-fever really bad).
I meant the frequent naps, short bouts of exercise (walking), eating, and drinking. I'm really a big chicken when it comes to pain and some of these posts (along with my Dr's nurses) have made a big impression on me to be good. I sure don't want adhesions from overdoing things.
By nature, I'm a type "A" and for me to watch TV alot, do latch-hook rugs, read books, and do puzzles is a big change. At first, I couldn't sleep later in the morning than 7:30. Now I'm up to 8:30 a.m.
