{{{claire}}} The majority of drs. do not let you take a bath while you are healing because of the risk of infection. However a shower is fine. I know personally that I was able to shower the second day with the nurse near by. I did fine until I got out of the shower and then I got dizzy and nearly passed out so I was glad the nurse was there. The important thing is that you follow your drs orders. Perhaps your friend took a shower and just refered to is as a 'bath'?or her dr allowed it. I cannot recall any sister saying she was allowed to have a bath so soon. Most of us are counting the days in anticipation of the beloved bubble bath. Good Luck to you on your trip to the castle!

I don't know about a bath, but the second day in castle, after catheter was removed I was sent to the shower, by myself.

I was able to take a shower the 2nd day also...I was told to stand with my back to the water to begin with.
No bath allowed, though!

I had showers in the hospital and went home after 6 days, but when I asked how long to wait until I could have a bath, I was told I could straight away. I checked this with different health staff and they all said the same.

I don't know if they would have said the same if I'd asked for a bath in the hospital - perhaps they felt 6 days was long enough?

Incidentally, I've only had 2 baths - after reading Hystersisters, I feel a bit nervous about having a bath despite what my doctors told me.

Your friend could be right, though. Some doctors may think it's okay.

The day after my LAVH I sat in a chair and gave myself a sponge bath while the nurse changed the sheets on my bed. The second day after surgery I was allowed to take a shower. (I went home that afternoon.) I was not allowed to take a tub bath until 2 weeks after my hysterectomy. There is no way I would have crawled in and out of a tub immediately after my hyst.

My doctor said no baths......showers. And this is just a thought: My uncle is from New England (Massachusetts) and he always says he is going "to grab a bath." He really means he is going to take a shower. So maybe that is what she actually meant? We have always laughed about my uncle saying this....we just can't figure out how he's going to "grab" it!
