24 hours...
My surgery should be starting this time tomorrow. I don't know that I've ever been this scared before. Two test results show AIS. Nothing invasive. The dr. is going to do a cone, then a simple vaginal hyst if results still show no invasive cancer. A radical hyst if there is invasive cancer. He says he doesn't anticipate that there will be. But I'm still afraid they'll open me up and find cancer. And I'm afraid I'll somehow be different after the surgery. Afraid of anesthesia. Oddly enough, not so afraid of the pain or recovery after...just everything else. Is it normal to be so afraid? Everything will be ok, right?

Re: 24 hours...
YES! It's SO normal to be scared even in the best circumstance and you have some undeniably daunting unknowns, that's the reality -- you're not creating it! That said, it's amazing what we can live through & overcome. This huge site full of powerful women is testament to that. Anticipation and imagination are often so much worse than the reality and if you continue to reach out for support, this whole ordeal will be that much easier!
I'm sensing that a fear of losing control while you're actually in surgery is affecting you most. Totally logical! I mean we're pretty vulnerable all doped up on that table. It sounds too though, like you really trust your doctor and the strength of that partnership can be powerful and truly calming if you can embrace it.
Try to communicate your anxiety to your docs and nurses tomorrow as you do your intake. If you can tell them the specifics of your fears when they're doing your preop they can help ease you through the parts you're most scared of. Try to be clear that you NEED their help in this area as much as you do with your physical well being. If any small thing they do before, during or after you come out of surgery makes you more nervous... tell them immediately, "that's making me nervous!" I did!lolol And I got great results.
Try to keep reminding yourself that you trust your team of docs, that they are there to help you and that you can do this! You may not have all the control but you haven't lost all of it either. And if you need to cry it out or ask for an anxiety pill because it's just a little too much to manage -- do it and don't beat yourself up about it... just keep breathing deeply and have hope
Sending peace & strength!

Re: 24 hours...
My surgery is scheduled for 11/15 and I too am very nervous. I've gone through an emergency c-section 24 years ago and thought this would be a breeze, but am getting more and more nervous as the time grows closer. But reading the comments, thoughts and suggestions from other women who have gone through this is helping me to realize that I'm not the only one who has felt like this and I don't have to be superwoman to get through it.

Re: 24 hours...
So, you are like me, a future date and time to ponder and worry. Mine was scheduled back in September but due to work and home issues I had to postpone. I now just what it over and done with. But I'm sure that's how everyone has felt.

Yes it is normal to be afraid! I didn't realize that until I came here. Before that I was being told by family and friends and anyone else who wanted to weigh in " you will be fine" " it's no big deal" "you have nothing to worry about"
I think people respond this way because they just don't know what else to say an they fear that if they acknowledge your fear and anxiety that it will make you feel worse

My best wishes to you and SylviaQ for your surgeries tomorrow. I'll say a prayer for you as I go through my pre-op testing. I hope you can get some rest and calmness tonight and that all will go well for you.

Re: 24 hours...
Thank you for all the kind words. I'm just trying to keep busy today in hopes of keeping the worrying to a minimum. By this time tomorrow it'll be done, and hopefully I'll be posting that everything is good and it want as scary as I thought.

Re: 24 hours...
It's perfectly normal to be nervous. My surgery isn't for a couple more weeks and I had a bit of a melt down yesterday. I would like to wish you luck with your surgery hope all goes well. I agree with letting the staff know at the Castle what you need.
