5.5 weeks post hysterectomy: need help with infection issues

I had everything removed on October 9 and went to see my doc at 1 week and 3 weeks. She said that everything was healing nicely. Then she left for Europe for three weeks. I had been extremely nauseous, lots of discharge, and in pain since surgery. She said I had a lot of inflammation and the hormones were probably making me nauseous. I hadn't eaten since surgery. My body was starving. I weighed 107 pounds. That weekend I was in so much pain and my fever was 101.7 so I called the doctors exchange. The doctor on call said it probably wasn't surgery related because it had been three and a half weeks and it sounded gastro. So Monday morning I go see my gastro doc and he said no way. I had a massive infection from the surgery and I needed to get the surgeon to order a ct scan right away. So I was wheeled over to my doc's office and tell them what's going on. Since my doc is out of town, I'll have to wait until tomorrow to see another doc. So I go home. About 2:30 am I wake up and go to the bathroom. Before I even sat down it was like I was pregnant and my water broke! I woke up my honey and said we have to go to the ER. So we go, I pee in a cup. Lots of white and red blood cells, and bacteria. .. All from vaginal draining. Blood work showed normal white blood cell count and I have only had a fever that one day. It has been very low on every day, up until today. Anyway, ct scan showed vaginal cuff cellulitis, and the abscess was fortunately draining vaginal and not internally. Hospitalized for 4 days on IV antibiotics. Never a fever, never high white blood cell count. Lots of drainage so no surgery. Discharged with no test to look inside to see if abscess is gone. Given a few days of oral antibiotics. Go home. Feel good for about a day. Then it starts again. Pain, nausea, discharge. I call doctor office and set up appointment so I don't have to go back to the ER. He looks and uses silver nitrate to cauterize my vaginal cuff where the stitches are. Doesn't check status of infection. I had to beg for antinausea meds. I am starving and stomach hurts bad. I go see my doc, back from Europe, this Friday, exactly 6 weeks post op. I am scared the infection is still there but they aren't concerned because my white blood cell count is normal and I don't have a fever. In fact, I have to try really hard to keep it above 96. Any advice?

Re: need help with infection issues

So sorry for the nightmare you are going through. I have no words of wisdom, but pray they find the answer sooner rather than later.

Re: need help with infection issues

**** - can't believe they won't use their eyes instead of strictly looking at reports and statistics. I am glad your doctor is going to be back and I hope he/she takes the time to give you a very thorough check.

Are you making sure you get sufficient rest; stay in bed, etc...??? Your biggest issue seems to be getting a doctor to listen to your concerns.
