Hope This Helps...

My hyst. on Jan. 29th. Like you and all the rest of us sisters, I was scared out of my mind. But, there are thing you can do to prepare yourself. First, make sure you have help for the first couple of weeks. You will need it. Also, have lots of cozy clothes for the hospital and home. I actually wore pant the day after surgery, it made me more comfortable. Take care of any stressful finance or home matters before your surgery!!!You don't need anything extra weighing on your mind. I know it sounds impossible but do the best you can.
As for what to expect, it's not near as bad as what you may fear. The docs and nurses around you will help and understand but, be honest. You will need help. You'll have a catheter in and be uncomfortable. You'll have a hand IV in and not be able to use that arm. You will also have pain meds at your dispense(at least in most cases). Use them! Don't be afraid to ask any questions, no matter how awkward.
Any other help you need, this is the place to be. Trust me, you are in good hands.
The biggest thing to remember is take a deep breath because your life WILL be better after it is over.
Take care.

There is so much to learn about this surgery and how much it can change your life. One of the most important things to know is what is exactly wrong with you and exactly what they are doing. How long of a stay etc. If there is one word that cannot be used enough is relax. You must relax and take it easy afterwards. Many women in here will let you know the things to bring and expect. For some reason I never thought that I would get Heparin shots and I did 2 x a day. Belly Pillow to hold your belly tight up against you when you get up and down and move around. Use it when you laugh, cough, sneeze and maybe even talk. You would be surprised how much you use your stomach muscles, Bring chap stick, wipes, brush your toiletry items. I brought my own pillow too man was I able to sleep then. I am sue there will be more to inform you alomg the way. If you do a total hysterectomy with a BSO that means both ovaries, tube, cervix and utuers goes, Expect hot flashes and cold sweats. Dr can only tell you that you may experince them but they do no know how bad the relly are. Talk about your surgery to people, get someone to help you out so tat you do not have loads of things to do. Well best of luck there.
