3 weeks post op and stiches were infected

Last week, I found out I had an infection in the stiches which are inside but the puss was leaking from my belly. The doc put me on an antibiotic but it really set me back. I felt like crap all week and the past 2 days have been starting to get up and start normal activities but I'm getting tired easily. I guess its to be expected. I see my regular doc this Friday so he can look at the stiches for me and let me know how its going. I'm trying little by little to do more and more each day. I did get out today and went to the mail a ton of thank you cards I did and my bills so thats done. God willing, I'll have more energy by the weekend. I think I'll go get my nails and a pedicure done tommorow, just to make me feel better. I had my uterus and one cervix removed and have been having hot flashes and that hasn't helped. So thats my update. (I have to tell ya all I had a DNC two weeks before the hysterectomy so I did have 2 surgeries in 3 weeks). I don't know if that has anything to do with my recovery taking longer and me feeling this way. Any comments? Suggestions?....thanks

I'm sorry you've had an infection and hope it's resolved now.

A hysterectomy is major surgery and, at 3 weeks post-op, it's still very early days. The initial and vital healing takes approximately 6 weeks (during which time complete rest is essential), with full recovery then anywhere from 3 months to a year. If you kept your ovaries then it's not unusual to experience hot flashes since they can temporarily go into "shock" due to the trauma of surgery. Hopefully, this will settle down eventually.

Have you found our <link> Post-Op Page yet? It's absolutely packed with information for your recovery. It will also help you to read our Post-Op Checkpoint Weeks 3-4, too.

Please try to rest as much as possible as you've only this one chance to heal properly. Sending all good wishes for a smooth recovery from here on out!

Serene lady:

How did you know that your inside stitches were infected? This is one of the things that I'm worried about but am unsure how I would know to go to the gyne to get checked.

Did you have a fever? Gross vaginal discharge? or was it just worsening belly pain?

Hope that you are feeling better!

Crikey, 2 surgeries and an infection to beat - No wonder you are tired!

Try not to push yourself too hard, you need to take the time to allow your body to heal. Pamper the princess!

Hugs
