infection...red blood?

one week post op and I spiked a fever of 102 two nights ago...pain in my groin on the left side. had hubbie take me in yesterday and dr said i had avaginal cuff cellulitis and it was not abnormal...put me on antibioitc and sent me on my way. If i didnt feel better in 24 hrs call. It is 24 hrs and I woke up this morning with bright red blood and more than i have had since the surgery. Called the office, even though i am not running fever anymore. Dr says that i should not worry unless I soak thru a pad in an hour. Although it is not that much, I am still freaked out a bit and not really sure why i would be bleeding that much. Could I have popped a stitch? Could it have been because he did an exam on me? Am I crazy? Had an Lvh, left ovaries. Anybody been thru this? I know that we should not be afraid to call the dr. but I know that they think that I am overreacting....any advice would be appreciated...

infection...red blood?

It would be possible that the bleeding is from him doing the exam, or a stitch or even the cellulitis/infection itself. I often had bleeding just with BV.
Funny I didn't think I had any internal infection when I saw the dr. at 2 wks (had some spotting & discharge) and he said I did. Put me on cipro and 2 days later all bleeding stopped --- guess he was right! LOL
Always call the dr. if you are concerned! You're very early in recovery and he needs to know these things. {Plus you're going into a weekend and might not be able to reach him}

infection...red blood?

I ran a fever for a few days post-op. I was petrified, but was on antibiotics already so they told me to "ride it out" for a couple of days. I've been bleeding lightly every day since the surgery (1/8) and they also told me it wasn't a concern unless I soaked a pad an hour. I guess I just have a leaky blood vessel or a stitch that doesn't want to heal, but no one seems too concerned. Your bleeding sounds worse than mine, but it seems like you and I are getting similar advice so I thought I'd chime in. I know the "pad an hour" is the standard answer regarding bleeding - I bled just about every day for months before the surgery and asked the doctor several times about it. It seems like an awful lot of blood to me, but I guess that's the standard rule.

My only advice is this - please, do not EVER hesitate to call your doctor's office, even if you just want reassurance that you are ok. That is what they are there for. You just had surgery - you're not overreacting! They are being paid to provide you with a service, and you are entitled to receive the level of service necessary to keep you healthy and happy. It would be horrible for you to worry all weekend if a phone call to them would help. So don't worry about what they might think about you calling again - being absolutely certain that you are ok is your primary objective right now.
