Post-op feelings

I am 35 and just had a TAH to treat an extremely large fibroid. I felt as if I was taking the easy road in having a hysterectomy and briefly felt what you describe. I then realized that my femininity is connected more to my heart, soul and mind then my uterus. Women are strong, intelligent and compassionate beings who make informed decisions about life and their bodies. Be confident in your convictions and all feelings of faulted femininity will wither. Good luck to you in recovery.

Re: Embarrassed to say that I have had a hysterectomy

I am 41. I had a TVH/BSO six months ago after suffering from 15 years of PMDD. I am totally relieved off all PMDD symptoms. I have other health issues some depression and epilepsy which have both improved and have been easier to manage after the surgery. I was really scared to have it done...I feared it would make things worse. For 2 months post op, I watched the calendar and time passed and I held my breath for some bomb to be dropped but all that came out was a big sigh of relief. I finally felt true freedom. I have absolutely no regrets whatsoever. I don't feel more or less "womanly". I read a bumper sticker the other day...."Sometimes you don't need to change the way you look, sometimes you need to change the way you see" Sometimes it's in how you define "woman" and your perspective of femininity. My personal view of feminity is a gentle but powerful force and has nothing to do with age, my looks, social status or any regards to having or not having female reproductive organs. It's how I look at myself when I look in the mirror and my ability to access and utilize both the feminine and masculine traits that reside within all humans.

Re: Embarrassed to say that I have had a hysterectomy

I had mine because of cancer. Never thought I would need one. It does embrass me. Dont like people to know how things were removed, dont like them to know about the cuff, dont like people to know about the menopause part, even though I had begun the process already. I work on knowing that this was needed to save my life, that my dh still finds me very attractive, that my friends dont treat me any different.
