TVH Almost 4 Weeks Post Op - Infection??

Had my TVH on 12/9 without compilations. I felt good up until last Friday when I had my two week post op check up. My GYN did an internal exam to check for hematomas. He said I was healing good and showed me the vaginal swab he did while performing my exam. The swab showed a pale to medium color discharge, but he said that was normal and to be expected. Up until that point the discharge was light and I barely noticed it.

Since Friday I have had mild discomfort which I'm attributing to my surgery and the exam. Its not so bad that I need to take Mortrin, but more like twinges. But the discharge has increased to the point I'm having to change panty liners much more frequently though still the same pale to medium color. Last night I noticed that I feel "irritated" almost like a yeast infection. Today I woke up and definitely know something is different - the same irritated almost raw feeling. Still a lot of discharge, but not the kind we normally attribute to yeast infection. There is no itching or foul odor. But now its all I can think about. Is it a yeast infection? Bacterial vaginosis? Did the internal exam cause some type of infection? Or did I cause this? Did I let soap/shampoo run down and didn't rinse good enough? Am I not changing liners enough to where I have too much moisture there? Sorry for the TMI - I tried to be as subtle as possible.

I plan to call my GYN first thing in the morning, but I know I have read where other ladies have had yeast infections or BV post op and thought maybe you could weigh in with some advice?

Thank you

Re: TVH Almost 4 Weeks Post Op - Infection??

Good luck, sister, you should definitely tell your Dr. and get it cultured… but, for what it's worth, as I recovered, I felt several times that I had a yeast infection… and it turned out I didn't. Sometimes, the onslaught of menopause and vaginal dryness causes terrible itchiness that can mimic yeast. I also had a yellow discharge at some later point that turned out to be nothing… but honestly, only your gyno knows for sure! Heal well! There are bound to be little setbacks here and there! All best from Romy

Hi Margie

I had similar symptoms to what you describe and was diagnosed with granulation tissue at three months post op. Had a day procedure to have it removed. Just thought this might be a possibility also. Seeing yr doctor as soon as possible would be definitely the best idea.
