Had my ultrasound yesterday

My gyn wanted to do an ultrasound before we scheduled surgery just so she can get a better "look" at things.

This is the second one I've ever had........abdominal & TVS.

Man, they kept taking pictures. The young lady that did mine was apparently in training and the other lady sat beside her and coached. She kept pointing out "there's one", another, there, there, look up, there.

I knew I had so many they couldn't count years ago, but dang, they kept on & on. It was almost unnerving. The older lady said "stop, there's a cyst" . I said Where ! She said ummm, on your ovary. She wouldn't answer any more of my questions about what they saw. She said I wasn't suppose to have heard her say cyst or anything and the doc would have to tell me next week when I go to see her. The young girl asked when did she need to scan for endo and the other lady said not right now.

Waiting another week to hear what else was found is making me anxious.

So, I assume I'll be losing at least one ovary since I have a cyst. I really wanted to try to keep them if possible.

I've been on BC pills since I was 13 and it would be great to NOT have to take a dang pill every day.

Something occurred to me last night. I'm 40 and have been having peri-menopausal symptoms since I was 32-33..........night sweats, mood swings, skin problems.

For the last 3 1/2 weeks, I've actually been hot flashing a couple times a day EVERY day. I bet its because of the cyst/cysts on my ovary/ovaries. I never had cysts before, just fibroids.

Something else has me thinking. Could these large fibroids be zapping me of my energy. I feel it/they are growing and sucking my body of energy so it can feed and grow.........like a parasite. I'm ALWAYS tired, and have no energy even though I eat healthy, take vitamins, and lift weights. I just always feel bad lately.

Maybe that's a question I should ask my doc.

Re: Had my ultrasound yesterday

If the fibroids are causing you heavy bleeding you could well be anemic as I was. My Docs were shocked at how low my hemoglobin was, in most people they said it would have caused fainting and dizziness but my body adjusted to it over the years, I just always felt tired.

If that's it try Slow FE iron or iron rich foods. My count is up and I am feeling SO much better.

I am focusing on bringing up my count before mny Aug 9 surgery so I won;t have any need for a transfusion.

Good luck!

Re: Had my ultrasound yesterday

Cysts on ovaries are not that uncommon and it does not mean you have to have the ovary removed.

I hate that they don't let the ultrasound people say what they see etc. The waiting is always nervewracking!

Re: Had my ultrasound yesterday

The place where I get my mammograms and had my ultrasounds done gives the results on the spot. The tech sends the pictures over to the doctor who then comes n and examines you further if she needs to and gives you the results right then.

Never knew it didn't work that way everywhere.

Waiting is nervewracking.

Re: Had my ultrasound yesterday

@ dpg1515

I'm not anemic. lol, I haven't had a period in over 8 months due to taking Loestrin FE 24 and I do like that.

I guess I'll have to wait to see if the cyst is bad or not. gahhh !
Maybe I can keep my ovaries!

I use to use a ob/gyn, 4 years ago, that did ultrasounds, etc., "in office" and was shocked I had to go to the hospital to have this done, using my current ob.gyn. You'd think OB's would do those in office since, well, they are OB's.

Sadly, every time I have to go to the hospital for even simple things like this ultrasound, it costs me a $300 co-pay, once I've met my $600 deductible. I met that 2 months ago when I had a CT so $300 a pop for ANYTHING done there. It sure would save me a lot of money if they did things in office but I do like my new gyn and I fired my last one. "HE" made me very angry so I found a female so we could relate to things better.

geeezzz, meaning, $300 for this ultrasound, $300 for any pre-op bloodwork, $300 for the initial hospital admittance, etc., not including whatever they decide to NOT pay 100% for. gahhh !

I'm soooo broke already.

Re: Had my ultrasound yesterday

Yikes that money really adds up fast!

I tried Loestrin 24 and did nothing for me at all except make me bleed heavier. In that respect you are lucky.

I have not stopped bleeding in the last 2 months, except for the last week since I took Lysteda.

Re: Had my ultrasound yesterday

Oh wow, I'm sorry to hear this.

It took about 2 years for my periods to completely stop but I've always felt bad while taking any BC pill. I was willing to put up with the bad feeling as long as I didn't have the horrible periods/pain anymore.

I did go off of them only twice within the last 22 years for a year each time, and I felt sooo much better..............until my periods went back to the same old crap.......... severe cramps, gushing, terrible bloating, all lasting at least 10 days. After that 10 days was over, I felt like a normal, happy, person.
