Rollercoaster day - Children mentioned...
What a day!
I am very much looking forward to my surgery, my husband has had a vasectomy, and we are very content with our two wonderful children.
Today I transitioned my "baby", 2 years old into a day bed...well today it hit me a little hard, feeling very final in my child bearing years, hysterectomy in 17 days.
Its strange to me to feel this way today, because as I said, hubby is fixed, and we are very happy. Maybe I should have waited to remove the crib till after my surgery ?? I don't know... feeling a little on empty today.
not even sure if I have explained myself well or not...just needed to type it out.
thanks for reading!

Re: Rollercoaster day - Children mentioned...
Dandylicious- I totally get it! I am 38 and have 13, 11 and 6 year old children. I am enjoying these older years and have had no desire to have another. However, in the several nights leading up to my surgery, I had numerous pregnancy dreams! After surgery I had one day where I had a bout of morning-sickness like queasiness and for one split second had an old "what if I am pregnant?" thought...and laughed as soon as I realized it was no longer possible (while still feeling a little pang that it is, in fact, no longer possible!
I am 99.999% totally happy and okay with my decision- there is only that teeny tiny niggling thought of sadness that the choice is no longer mine to make.
Take care and good luck with your upcoming surgery!

Re: Rollercoaster day - Children mentioned...
I think the feeling hits a lot of us even if it isn't "rational"----I could no way have had babies but still it hit me. And really it was a good move to change from the crib, less lifting to deal with post op. I do know the feeling may last a while but it gets better. Who knew a uterus held so much meaning sometimes? I really didn't expect it at all. You've totally explained it well; and it probably helps to vent it.

Re: Rollercoaster day - Children mentioned...
I think the feeling would have come no matter what. I'm 35 and my kids are 6 and 7. I'm divorced and have no intentions of ever remarrying. Given all of that and the fact that I had an extremely hard time getting, and staying, pregnant children were out of the question after my last miscarriage in 2008. It still doesn't change the finality of this. No matter how adjusted you are to your situation, this is another huge adjustment.
Keep your chin up. It will get easier and you'll be on the road to recovery soon.

Re: Rollercoaster day - Children mentioned...
thanks for "getting" it ladies, it means a lot!
@ DAISYLILY = Pregnancy dreams! - for sure, every night for that last week, if not me, others I know, but always about babies.
@ greyown = less lifting is exactly why we changed his crib now, and our first nap time was very successful so he is transitioning well! huge relief!
@melmont214 = difficult getting and staying pregnant is exactly why two is enough, even the drs. had asked me to stop, and I don't desire a third, and don't feel like I am missing out, or being denied anything. But you said it perfectly " it doesn't change the finality of this"
Thanks for listening ladies, really appreciate it! best wishes to us all!

Re: Rollercoaster day - Children mentioned...
I know that feeling!! I go in for my hyster tomorrow and I have 3 boys (10, 5 and 3) and have had my tubes tied already. I still had an emotional breakdown watching "knocked up" over the fact that I'd never be able to have a baby again. My poor husband was soooo confused lol!! Our family is perfect, we don't want anymore children (hence my tubal) and yet it still hit me hard. I feel like I'm losing the very parts that make me a woman. I think an emotional roller coaster is the perfect way to explain it! We're all going through so much mentally and emotionally that its only natural to feel this way huge hugs!! You're not alone!

Re: Rollercoaster day - Children mentioned...
I think it's perfectly normal. These hormones can wreck havoc w/ us! I was told by several friends who went through hysterectomies (at different ages) that I would "grieve" a little for my no longer uterus and I'm older than all of you ... 55 this March.
Just another "phase" in life.
Hugs to all
