Met with new doc - confirmed Hyster needed

Okay, so I met with a 2nd surgeon today who basically confirmed that my best option is a hyster. He said he would do a robotic laproscopic hyster and take the cervix and uterus. It's my decision as to when I do this.

Reading on here, I am more confused than ever if this is the right thing to do. Reading the sex issues scares the crap out of me...how awful that would be. What is the percentage of that happening???

To recap, I have one large fibroid that is 6 CM and several smaller ones. I have awful periods with heavy flow, golf ball size clots and cramping that puts me in bed. BCP can be an option but run the risk of making the fibroid worse. Myomectomy would work but I have a high probability of fibroids returning. No one except my sister and I still has their uterus in my family going back to my great great g'ma.

Any advice would be welcomed.

If you are not 100% sure a hyst is the best choice for you at this time, talk to your doctor(s) about trying any options available. You may find that they work or they may buy you some time so you can come to terms with needing a hysterectomy.

A hyst is a major surgery and there are risks involved. Your sex life can be affected as well as the rest of your body. So you want to be sure that you are doing what is right for you and that the pros outweigh the cons.

I can tell you that while I had many complications with my hyst, but my sex life has been fine.

We have many Fibroid Resources you may want to read through to learn all you can about them.

Best wishes to you for whatever you decide!

Last year, my doctor offered me an ablation or a hysterectomy. I chose the ablation because it's less invasive and less down time. Unfortunately, it didn't work. I had the abdominal hysterectomy and I'm feeling better already. Find out all your options and sit down with your family and discuss. I knew there was a chance the ablation wouldn't work but I wanted to try it anyway. Good luck.

Hi CaveCreekAZgal,

Here is a Hyster Sisters link that goes to several past threads on the ~Da Vinci Robotic~ surgery.

https://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/sea...earchid=695375

If your cervix is sturdy and you have had normal pap smears for years, you might consider talking to your Dr. about your cervix. I have read on Hyster Sisters threads that the cervix can be *retained* with a robotic hyst. I kept my cervix with my hyst and I am still very pleased with the decision.

Sending best wishes~

Mary
