5 Weeks Post & Coughing HURTS:((

I had my only post-op 2 days ago, and all went well. I only had one small spot that was still healing, and sore. Doc said to still be careful lifting, still 10lbs, and under, but to ease into normal activities as I feel able....well, I wasn't prepared for this coughing type flu illness we have all contracted at our house: it is KILLING me!! Now, what felt just fine a few days ago(down there), is swollen again, and throbbing, because of the pressure caused by all my coughing. I am maxed out on OTC cold meds, and the coughing just wont stop....I'm guessing if It hasn't lessened some by tomorrow, I may go to the doc. Idk. I'm not bleeding, just very inflamed and sore....can coughing at this point in my recovery, damage any repair work that was done?? A&P repairs?? Suggestions, anyone??

Oh, and I did already ask my gyno doc to write for a cough syrup, as no OTC was working, even at my check-up. He could see that me, my hubs, and our 3-yr old, obviously had SOMETHING. Doc refused any script, as he stated, "no, its addictive.". OMG. Really? I've used that syrup 3X, in the last several years, and it is a lil tiny bottle....I obviously am not 'addicted' to it. lol, I just don't wanna cough out my cuff. Sorry tmi. ;((

Re: 5 Weeks Post & Coughing HURTS:((

I'm 2 weeks post and coughing too. I've got a lot of mucus I'm coughing up and a constant tickle in the back of my throat (maybe from the medication). It's incredibly painful to cough.

I'm using Throat Coat. Have you tried that ? It's an herbal tea. It tastes awful (to me) but relieves my scratchy throat.

Also make sure you are splinting your stomach with a pillow when you cough (fold a bed pillow in half, cross your arms around it and hold it against your stomach).

I too worry that I'm damaging something because coughing always makes me more sore and swollen.

Feel better soon !
