Re: I think I have a UTI..

If you have to take antibiotics again, try taking them with acidophilus pills, they help to avoid the yeast infections and the thrush.

Re: I think I have a UTI..

Definitely use acidophilus or probiotics and hopefully you won't get a yeast infection. My docs have me on it non stop due to past infections and it has really helped to stop the cycle. I hope you are feeling better

Re: I think I have a UTI..

I am on Cipro again, he said that my bladder is severely inflamed and its probally the early stages of a UTI. I got thrush right when I came home from the hospital, it was NO fun!! They gave me so many antibiotics in the hospital in that 36 hours I was there it was ridiculous!

Zen~ As for the IC, I got that diagnosis after my urodynamics pre-op. They gave me a list of no-no's and put me on meds for it, but the meds didn't really help. My biggest problems seemed to be if I tried to hold it before surgery it would just ache like no tomorrow. My doc told me before surgery that doing surgery period would aggrevate my bladder but doing the surgery on my bladder would really tick it off. My prolapse and stuff was so severe surgery had to be done, he said he wouldnt have been able to do the hyster without fixing the bladder so he was glad we opted to do so. He tells me that after it gets over the trauma of surgery the IC may actually get better, and yes I do avoid cranberry, citrus etc but had tried drinking some cran-pom juice last week to see if it would go over ok. Guess not lol. Are you on any meds for the IC? Did surgery make yours act up?

Re: I think I have a UTI..

I am currently on Elmiron for the IC. At first it didn't seem like the surgery bothered it but as I recovered I started having major problems. The docs thought I had UTI's and kept giving me antibiotics. I finally called my urologist and went in to see him. I didn't have a UTI this time but the IC had really kicked in. Bladder spasms that just didn't stop. I had days at work that I would be in bathroom curled on floor until med kicked in. I am having a cystoscopy on Thursday to see if it will lessen the flare. The Elmiron has helped but my problem is that my Crohn's, and IBS seem to act in sync with the IC. One starts and the others kick in too. I am hoping it calms down at some point.
It sounds like it is a good thing they did the surgery for you even though it may have irritated the bladder in the short term. I hope the antibiotic helps you out and you start to feel better. And I agree about thrush. I have had it four times since the surgery and it is horrible. Hopefully the acidophilus will help. Hope you feel better soon.

Re: I think I have a UTI..

UTI???? This is a new topic for me - I've never had one, but because of the new pain in my lower left abdomen my doctor had me go in for a urinalysis and wants me to come in to see her tomorrow morning.

If it's a UTI why would my lower left abdomen hurt? That's the only symptom I have and pain meds are not helping to relieve it.

What symptoms did the rest of you have with a UTI?

Re: I think I have a UTI..

I had burning after going and going a lot during the day. As it progressed I ended up with pain through my back because it was so sore. Everyone is different and gets different symptoms. If you take antibiotics for UTI, take acidophillus or you may end up with more infections.
