The annoying sticky residue left after surgery..

Okay. Surely I am not the only one with this problem. They put a big patch over my incision stuck on by tape, IVs stuck on by tape, etc...

Is there a trick I am unaware of that is helpful in removing the sticky residue left by the tape? I have tried scrubbing but some of it is so close to my incision it really hurts.

The nurses I work with have recommended blotting wth alcohol since the alcohol will help to break down the adhesive. They use this trick all the time on tha tape fr an IV before they remove it and say it really helps.

Ashers, it's too funny that you posted this! I have the same gunk all over me....I've been trying to wash it off and last night had the brain wave that baby oil would remove it. No luck...then I remembered, like Lady Poet said, that rubbing alcohol works. Unfortunately, I do not have any. Must pick some up! Good luck getting the gunk off!!

I used rubbing alcohol on a q-tip. My husband told me to use goof off and I think he was serious.

I used alcohol on mine too and it definitely worked. It's funny how they mostly don't tell you about the "simple things" when you leave the hospital lol.

We use Keri oil at the hospital where I work and I used it on my dressing too. I had a huge waterproof dressing that I finally pulled off at 9 days. Just work Keri oil under the edge work work it off so it doesn't pull skin and hair with it. Good luck!
