Week 3 Bleeding and cramps

Hi all. I'm just entering week 3 after surgery and after an initially good recovery I now feel dreadful. For the last week I've had a little pinkish discharge, but I put that down to a lIttle blood from my vaginal biopsy. Yesterday I had incredible nausea, a brainbusting headache, and felt like I was getting the flu. Today I feel the same, but I am also crampy and have been losing blood - old and new - since lunch time. It's not heaps, but there's a definite loss there. Of course it is Sunday, and tomorrow is a public holiday, so I can't do much about it until Tuesday... I just hope it's ok to wait until then.

Re: Week 3 Bleeding and cramps

If you had your cervix removed along with the uterus, it's possible that maybe the bleeding/cramping is from dissolving stitches. My doctor told me not to be shocked if I had bleeding around that time frame. I had a breast reduction 5 years ago and even after all of the incisions had healed I had zings and pangs and aches and pains... just part of the healing process.. nerves reconnecting. If you are too worried call the doctor, there should always be someone on call 24/7.
Good luck, hope you feel better.

Re: Week 3 Bleeding and cramps

Hi Earthly,

A little bleeding and discharge is normal. Also, at about week 3 in your recovery it may seem like you're taking two steps forward and one step back. I know for me, I had NO energy, I started spotting and cramping more and just felt awful. My doctor said not to worry unless I filled a pad in an hour or had a fever of over 100.

You can always go into the ER if you are worried...you don't have to wait until Tuesday.

There's a Hysterectomy Checkpoint link at the top left hand corner of the site...if you haven't already done so, it may be worth checking out so you can see/hear what to expect during your recovery.

I hope you're feeling better soon!

Re: Week 3 Bleeding and cramps

My mom said she always heard week 3 was the roughest. I know during that 3rd week the stitches start disolving, not just the vaginal cuff stitches, but all of the hundreds inside. Rest, put your feet up, and call the doctor if you experience anything unusual.
