How much am i allowed to walk~bored to death

I had my surgery on May 18th, a total hysterectomy, leaving in my one ovary. Today, I walked the mall a little bit with my Mom. I am waiting to drive for at least another two weeks, because of hitting the brake.

My question is how much am I allowed to walk? There is a craft show tomorrow, and so badly want to try to go. My hubby will be with me, so if I don't feel well, I can sit down. I just don't want to wreck my stitches or anything. I am healing very nicely. I am only taking 400mg of ibuprofen now. I am in less pain every day. I am still bleeding a little bit, but it starting to turn over to brown color, which I have been told means it is healing.

Thank you so much all the ladies out there. I SERIOUSLY couldn't be doing without all of your support. I am deeply appreciative.

LOVEBEAGLES,

I think the key is to listen to your body. I had a very easy recovery and was actually back to work at the 2 week mark. But, not many have that experience.

You could try to go, just have an easy out if you are tired or start to hurt.

It's really easy to over do things when you start feeling better. Take it easy.

Re: How much am i allowed to walk~bored to death

I had my sg May 20 th and have been climbing the walls!!! Went out with hubby the other day and was just exhausted after. Today I went out with a friend to pick up prescriptions and have hunch. Now had abdominal pain that is to the right of any stitches. It actually started this am. How much walking...I don't know but I do know that I am going to cut back a little and take it slow. I have a tendency to go to fast but I learned my lesson. When I stuck to short 5 -7 miinute walks at "grandma" speed on my treadmill, I was fine. Still can't stand upright but like everything else, it will take time. If you do go to the fair walk slowly!!! sit frequently and set a time limit. If you get tired go home and lie down...it's so easy to say and so hard to do.

Re: How much am i allowed to walk~bored to death

Thank you ladies. I might rent a wheel chair this week, espicially being it's a long holiday weekend. This way hubby can push me part of the way, and I can walk the rest. I was out today for about an hour and I am exhausted. I haven't slept that well, so I am sure I will sleep tonight.

Re: How much am i allowed to walk~bored to death

I (slowly) walked to the farmer's market and back today (about 1.75 miles) with a friend. Took a nap then realized I really would have to spend the rest of the day on the couch! No other problems except some twinges here and there. Frustrating-but my friend was amazed I could walk that much at all so I guess all is going well. I did wear a binder-made me feel safer in the crowds at the market and made all the walking more comfortable-then ice packs when I got home (felt sooo good!).

Re: How much am i allowed to walk~bored to death

I personally have been following the "if it hurts, don't do it".

I was going stir crazy from being cooped up, so I went shopping 4 days post op at the mall. Needed a nap afterwards, but otherwise felt great.

So like everyone has said, go to the show. Just make sure there are places that you can rest, and that you have the option to head home if you get too tired.

Re: How much am i allowed to walk~bored to death

I know how you feel, i had surgery on the 20th and am feeling the same, went to a garden center yesterday and just took it easy, had a bit of an achy tum at night so just rested, It is difficult if you are so used to being active and independant and feel ok not to do stuff. I dont know how i am going to manage for another 5 weeks !

take care and take it easy... its all we can do

Re: How much am i allowed to walk~bored to death

I had a total hyst the same day May 18th, mine was Davinci method. I have be walking about 20-30 mins a day. But a day at the craft show might be rough. I would suggest like the other poster..get a wheel chair. I know I still try to do to much and tire.

Take care.
