not a good appetite and nothing good...

Hi sisters,
I am having trouble finding something I can eat that won't cause *bad* it hurts worse than the operation pain. My on the top is really tight. Please give me some suggestions on what to eat and what not to eat. Sometimes gas x doesn't even help.
Thanks in advance,
Debbie

not a good appetite and nothing good...

My surgery was on July 11th and I've had trouble with everything that I eat. As soon as I take a few bites I'm bent over in pain. I noticed that your surgery was before mine. Did you have problems with this before your surgery, or did they just happen? I'm six weeks now and I'm worried my stomach is never going to return to normal. One day I go to the bathroom six times and then I'll go for 3 days and never go at all. All I've been able to eat is rice, toast, and potatoes. Everything gives me gas as well. I hope this is just something that will pass for the both of us! Do you know if it's normal to have problems like this?

not a good appetite and nothing good...

Well, it is funny how my appetite has changed so much since my surgery two weeks ago. Nothing sounds good, can't stand some smells, etc.

I've been eating yogurt, bananas, cold chinese food, water, root beer, chicken and that's about it. Can't eat anything hot (temperature). Lots of popsicles too.

Hope this helps you.

not a good appetite and nothing good...

I have been having abdominal pain the past four days, very bad! I was wondering if it is not from the hormone therapy. Is anyone else on hormones? I felt fine the second week after my surgery, then the doc put me on synthetic plant hormones, and I am have horrible stomach cramps and threw up last night. I am also watching what I eat very carefully, thinking that was the problem at first. Still confused! Darla

I do know that come hormones can cause nausea and vomiting. I've also heard some people say even bloating. Research the side effects of the particular drug you are taking. I think that any hormone you take by mouth increases the stomach side effects. I'm on a hormone patch and it seems to be working great. I'm still having nausea, but I think it's from my body adjusting and healing from surgery. If you can, I would suggest trying a patch. I've had no irritation at the site that I wear mine and you just have to change it twice a week. I hope you get to feel better. I've been sick to my stomach for almost a year straight now and understand that it is no fun at all.

Thanks for the replies. leisha: No I didn't have problems with this before surgery but I remember when I was a teenager(long time ago) that I would have to lay down on my side in a fetal position because after I ate I had cramps. The doctor at that point said that I had a small intestinal tract but he didn't do anything about it that I remember. Since surgery my bowels are doing the same thing yours are. I will go three or four times in one day and skip a day. I hate to say it but one of my friends said that when she had her hyst. they nicked her bowels and her bowel movements haven't been the same since and that was decades ago. I think part of my problem is that after my hyst. I had a bowel obstruction that put me in the hospital for 6 days and it was a terrible experience so whenever I have any bowel problems I go into panic mode. About the food, rice seems to do good for me too. I am Lactose intolerant and I wonder if it has gotten worse. I use to be able to get away with it more but that might have changed. Ninabogard: Thank you for the suggestions, how is root beer doing for you? Every once in a while I would like to have a soda but I am afraid of the carbonation. pampereddarla: I am confused too because everyone I talk to here has their own opinion trying to help but the latest one got me thinking(hmmm) They said that it could be the weather.(I know it sounds weird but listen to this) It has been raining really bad today and thunder and lightening. Our stomach, if we had a TAH, was cut into and the muscles and ligaments sewn back together. Our stomachs need to get back into shape that's why the dr. sometimes perscribes excersises to get our stomachs back in shape. What would prevent our stomach muscles from hurting in rainy weather just like any other muscle that hurts in rainy weather. I don't know I might be just grasping at straws but it is a thought. I guess we just have to keep on doing our best to get through whatever it is. One of these days we will be that new woman every body keeps talking about, in the meantime we have this website to help us out.

not a good appetite and nothing good...

Hi Deb:

I don't have any problem with the root beer, I put it over ice and that cuts the carbonation down a lot.

I used to drink diet coke, and can't stand it now. I tried diet root beer and I guess I can't drink diet any more. There must be something in it that gives me indigestion.

As far as BM's, I know the panic feeling. But I just started drinking a lot more water and that helped a lot. Also, when you're on the toilet seat, it helps to lean back when you're actually going. And I pray too while I'm going. It might sound weird, but it helps me.

I'm only on week 2 - never thought I'd make it through week 1. What a relief, not as scared, but each new thing frightens me and then when it happens again, I'm ok about it.

My best thoughts and wishes to you,

Nina

Ever Eat Normal Again?

Good Morning Ladies,
I too am afraid to eat a lot of things. I also used to be a diet dew drinker. Now I'm afraid to drink any soda. Whenever I've tried (twice) I pay for it.
I'm able to tolerate chicken pretty well, but whenever I eat beef it seems really heavy in my stomach. Have had pretty good luck with pasta too.
One of my favorite things to eat is Mexican and am feeling like I might never be able to eat it again.
I guess this is one way to lose those extra 10 lbs.

not a good appetite and nothing good...

my surgery was Aug 17th. When I got home on Aug 29, I had a fried chicken wing (KFC) and corn on the cob. The following day I had instant oatmeal for breakfast, lunch was a chicken sandwich with fruit and for dinner my mom made me shrimp stirfry. Before I could take two bites of the chicken stirfry I was bent over in pain. I felt like I was close to death and I thought that this was how the rest of recovery was going to be (didn't think it was the food). My husband tried to comfort me. He put covers on me at night because I was freezing. Then immediately I started sweating. Sweat was rolling down my chest. My nightie was wet in the front. I thought I was experiencing hot flashes even though I have both ovaries. Well about midnight I began throwing up. I welcomed death. I was so afraid and didn't know what was happening to me. After I was showered I went to sleep shivering with my knees to my chest. The next day, everything was back to normal. No more pain. No hot flashes. And now I am afraid of eating. I have never felt so bad in my whole life. I guess you can't go from a clear liquid diet to fried chicken and heavy meals. I'm trying to take it slow again. So I have been eating soups and this morning I had my first scrambled egg and half piece of toast and I feel alright. Maybe for lunch I will have soup and half of a sandwich.
