Insomnia

I started having issues with insomnia about a year before my hyst. However, it seems worse now. Has anyone else experienced this? I know my thyroid is not functioning at all, and I have issues with my estrogen staying in a normal range, it is usally too low.

Re: Insomnia

I think both your thyroid and your low estrogen could be contributing to the insomnia. Have you spoken with your doctor?

Re: Insomnia

I have this. My thyroid was fine my est was not. All my friends who had this surgery are fine I dont know why some of us get this. I ended up having to use a ssri and klonipin. Not the route I wanted but it helped to get the est right.

Re: Insomnia

I have been taking 2 1/2 mg of klonopin at night for about three years. Most of the time it works great to relax me, and I only wake up once or twice and can fall back to sleep, but for some reason the last couple of weeks I have had the insomnia.

Re: Insomnia

Yeah, I have no trouble getting to sleep at all, it's staying asleep that is my problem.

And, since I have sleep apnea, the dr won't give me any sleep meds so I have to find my own way.

5htp helps me some...and sometimes it doesn't.

7keto DHEA helps me some...and sometimes it doesn't.

Melatonin definitely helps if I take 5 mg, but then I get groggy and down the next day.

To tell you the truth, I found I slept better the few times I've tried getting off of hormones than I have being on any of them.

I wouldn't recommend taking something that doesn't help. If you have sleep apnea, not surprised you're not sleeping well. Are you using a cpap machine?

receptionist, if things have changed I think you should check in with your doctor. My hormones have been balanced for many years now. Recently I get about 5 hours sleep a night. I am working with my accupuncurist to figure out what's going on. I do not think it's related to estrogen or any other hormone imbalance as I'm not having any other symptoms and just had my annual bloodwork, which was

Re: Insomnia

Hi Girls,

I was told it was the testostrone, 4 balance but some days I need something more. I was also taught how 2 prepare myself 4 a comfortable night. Stay busy, stay well!

Re: Insomnia

I wouldnt rule out hormone. I slept fine before this surgery my thyroid and adrenals are fine. But when one is off they can cause other things to go off. Thyroid can cause insomnia and the biggest complaint of menapause is sleep so is it the chicken or the egg

Re: Insomnia

Since my surgery I can honestly say I have not had a decent night of sleep since December 11th, my surgery was on December 13th. I fall asleep okay, but wake up about every 2 hours. I have tried many sleeping pills, they don't work. I take estrogel, it helps usually with my moods and flashes, but not the staying to sleep. The frustrating part for me is before my surgery I was in severe pain. I took a few pain pills, curled up with a heating pad and could sleep. Now I am not sure whats waking me up. Its almost like I can not get my mind to calm down, always thinking. I look at it as fine tuning, after the summer is over, I may go back to my gyno and play with my hormones again, or at least try to figure out whats with this lack of sleep. I hope you get a good night of sleep soon.
