Air bubbles

I just had surgery yesterday. I've been very gassy and have what feels like air bubbles in my abdomen and up into my ribs. Is this normal? Is there anything I can do besides drink lots of water and walk?

Re: Air bubbles

I had my surgery the same day and am feeling the gas bubbles too. I am pushing the water and have taken gas X. I am also taking my walks. From what I had read and in talking to a friend day 3 and 4 can be the roughest for gas pains. Hope you get some relief.

Re: Air bubbles

For the first few days post op, I felt like I had an aquarium bubbler living in my torso. I could feel bubbles wandering around, very creepy. Walking and walking and then more walking really helped. Gas X doesn't do anything for bubbles in the torso, but it helps keep the gas that's working its way through your intestines from hurting as much.

Oh, and take it easy on carbonated beverages and foods that bring on gas (beans, broccoli, etc.) until the gassy phase is over.

Re: Air bubbles

Welcome to the world of gas.
Gax-x will work wonders as will walking to disperse the gas. It's a by product of the surgery and will pass but can be uncomfortable and painful.
Good Luck and happy healing!!!

Re: Air bubbles

The only way I got rid of mine was walking and more walking. Hope you feel better soon!

Re: Air bubbles

When I was in the hospital a nurse gave me a very helpful hint. She said putting a heating pad somewhere near but not on a gas bubble seems to make them dissipate. I have no idea why and she didn't either but it did work. For example, if you have a gas pain in your right shoulder put the heat pack on the left side.
