Scared and Unsure
Hi Kendra,
You're allowed to be scared - I was petrified although I didn't let on except to these wonderful women on this website.
My suggestion is to just keep on posting about your concerns until Wed. Originally I was going to have my surgery on the 10th but they managed to reschedule and I am now 2 weeks and 2 days post op. I posted some silly sounding questions before my surgery and the support I received was overwhelming.
Also remember that everyone is different in their recovery time/experiences so don't think that it's all a competition. You do what your body is telling you in the recovery phase - again this site will save your sanity.
Will be thinking of you,
Diana

Hang in there!
Kendra,
They usually have you check that early so that they can prepare you for surgery.
They will have you change into your "Backless Gucci Designer Gown" that's what I refer to them as!
Start your IV, the nurses will ask you a bunch of questions, and you should meet your anestheisologist (sp?) at this time as well.
I had my Gallbladder out about 3 years ago and from what I have read on the boards it's pretty much the sameroutine.
This is a good time to let them know that you are nervous and scared, cuz they can help reassure you! Also they can let the Anestheisiologist know and they may give you something to un-jangle your nerves!
I know that I am a bundle of nerves too and that is perfectly normal hon.
Ask tons of questions even if they may seem silly to you at the time...with knowlegde there is power...and in this case a lil bit of sanity!!
Here's s for you hon and know that we are all in this boat together!!

I'm feeling the same
Hi Kendra,
Don't feel like you are the only one out there, I have a full hyster scheduled for April 15th and I am petrified too. I am soooooo sick of all my friends and family saying don't worry about it, it'll all work out! I know it will work out but it will work out more smoothly if I prepare and plan ahead. I know we will get through it is just all the fear and emotions we go through ahead of time.
I unfortunately spent the last week at the hospital with mother who had a coletomy, nothing like staring your future days in the hospital right in the face!
I just wanted you to know that I feel the same as you, know that my heart and prayers willl be with you throughout this.
Keep posting or send me an email if you just need to let off steam.
I'm right there with you!

Scared and Unsure
I was a nervous wreck the last few days before surgery. Everyone I knew who had been through it said they had no regrets, that they felt SO much better afterwards, and still I kept thinking "Why do I have to do this?" The fact that I had made a logical decision based on my symptoms, my age, and the various treatment options available mattered less and less in the days leading up to the surgery. But then the day came, and I showed up (which I actually considered not doing) and when it was over, I felt a huge burden had been lifted. I could focus on all the benefits - no more painful periods that went on for weeks, no heavy bleeding that scared the living daylights out of me, no more wondering if I was going to have to start shopping for maternity clothes if my uterus got any bigger. I was so stressed over the surgery that I forgot the stress my periods were causing me. It's been less than 2 weeks since my surgery, and already I can't believe I waited so long to do anything about it. My friends weren't lying - I really do feel better!
Good luck with your surgery! I'll be saying a prayer for you. :-)

Scared and Unsure
Welcome Kendra!
My surgery is scheduled for noon on the 11th and they told me I had to report to admitting at 8am. I kept thinking what in the world am I going to be doing in those 4 hours! When I was reading the patient handbook I was given in preadmit, it stated to be there 4 hours prior to surgery and if that means I have a better chance of getting my private room, than I'm all for it! I feel like I'm back in the Army again with all the hurry up and wait! Best wishes on your big day!

Scared and Unsure
Welcome Kendra,
Join the nervous crowd. I am scheduled for May 20th. Seemed like forever away a month and a half ago when it was scheduled. Now it seems to be creeping up much too fast.
Yes, the early arrival time is to get everything ready. My surgery is scheduled for 7:30, they haven't told me how early I have to arrive yet, but I have a feeling it will be VERY early!!! But that's ok, I am sure I won't sleep any the night before I have scheduled myself to work a 12 hr shift the day before my surgery to keep my mind off the surgery (gee, do you think I will be much help in the ER that day )
Keep visiting here. It is what keeps me from driving my family and friends nuts obssessing about this surgery.
