Will monthly bloating still occur if your ovaries are not removed?

After much testing last week it was diagnosed I have rather large fibroids within my uterus. I was given several different options by my medical doctors. My question today is, if I choose not to have my ovaries removed during my hysterectomy (therefore having a partial hysterectomy), will I go through all the bloating and other symptoms each month anyway?
I am 45 years of age debating the options to have a partial or a full hysterectomy. UFE is not an option for me, Lupron and Progesterone were offered but I would rather not delay or prolong my misery. Thanks! Nan45

Will monthly bloating still occur if your ovaries are not removed?

Hi Nan45,

I am 46 and I am very glad I kept my ovaries.

In post-op, I do experience mild PMS. Tender breasts and some mild irritability at that time of the month. However, I do not get bloat and I am fibroid free now. Also, the PMS tells me my ovaries are working.

I decided to keep my ovaries since my Dr. told me that they were healthy and ovarian cancer does not run in my family. I have also read on H.S. that the ovaries secrete hormones down to the last drop. The hormones help with skin, hair and bones.

If you are leaning towards removing your ovaries, I can suggest you talk to your Dr. about HRT or an alternative method after surgery, since ovary removal during surgery causes surgical menopause.

Good luck. We Hyster Sisters are here to help if we can.

Will monthly bloating still occur if your ovaries are not removed?

Dear Nan,

I am 5+ years post-op, and kept my healthy ovaries. The only symptoms I have of my cycle these days is my skin gets a bit oily once a month.

Hope this info helps. I am sending huge cyberhugs
