should I use a binder after hysterectomy?

I'm 6 days out and on this site is the only time I've heard of using an abdominal binder.... I'm gradually feeling more "normal" up walking around (atleast for awhile... by the afternoon I'm sore and tired) I'm just wondering if it would help me at this point? Even the sweats and yoga pants I'm wearing are uncomfortable on the incisions.

Re: should I use a binder after hysterectomy?

I like my binders, and even 8 weeks out wear one sometimes -- like today because I did too much this week. It's really about support, helps hold abs in so you don't. I have a couple areas inside that get "pinchy" sometimes and binder eases that.
Because it's over the entire area it didn't bother my incisions. If it did bother me, I'd put a smooth tank top over my belly and the binder on top. It also keeps the waistband off my skin.

I guess I judt worry that my already somewhat flabby belly will be even worse if I have something else holding it in for me ;-) but it does sound way more comfortable

I wore one for about 5 weeks. I think for me it was more mental than anything!

Re: should I use a binder after hysterectomy?

I like the binders because they seem to hold my swelly belly in and more comfortable that way. I'm overweight anyway, but, this has made my stomach feel extended and like I have not abdominal wall to hold the insides in, lol so to speak. These help me feel more comfortable
