Anyone with Fibromyalgia having surgery???

First, let me say that this site is wonderful. I think it is the only thing keeping my half way sane until my sugery on March 9.

I have a question -- I have fibromyalgia and was wondering if anyone else has this? The reason I am asking is that my Dr. took me off of my meds for it and I am having a lot of problems. Reason -- meds make blood to thin.

Not only am I freaking about the surgery TAH, I am really hurting from no meds. Trying to keep my mind busy by making lists and cleaning.

fibromyalgia

I am sending good wishes your way. I suffered from FM for years, and it was awful. No one, including the doctors, really knew how to help or support. I have been pain free for about five years now. Sailed through my TVH just fine, no recurrance. I hope that all goes well for you. Try not to worry too much, the stress just makes it worse.

Be well.

tread,
Not only will you be crabby you are going to hurt. Best thing you can do is take Arthritis Strength Tylenol. They stopped mine 12 days ago. I love this website I have found so much information here that is very helpful.

Good luck in April.

Anyone with Fibromyalgia having surgery???

I have fibromyalgia and had my surgery Janaury 20, 2006. I was not taken off my meds. I wonder what you take. I only take Requip at night for restless leg and Ambien to try to get some sleep. Had to go off advil before surgery but could still take tylenol. I think the pain sensations after surgery are somewhat magnified due FM. I would be interested in knowing what you take that makes your pain go away.I hope your surgery goes well.

I take Mobic and it really helps. Sometimes I have break through pain but usually this keeps the pain hidden I guess you would say.

Anyone with Fibromyalgia having surgery???

I also have/had FM. Got it after a car accident in 99 and suffered with it for about 4 years. It's either gone or in remission for about 3 years now. I occassionally have mini flares, where the pain in my arms and hands comes back, but it hasn't lasted long. Anyway, I just talked to nurse today about pre op stuff and told her about it. She didn't really comment on it. I'm glad to hear that someone had surgery and it didn't cause a flare. For those of you still actively dealing with it, my heart goes out to you. Just remember, before surgery, don't overdo it!! I remember how overdoing would lead to a flare, so be sure to take care of yourself before surgery too!

I have FM too, among other things! I am glad you brought this up, it is something I have not done much research on. I have noticed that after my d&C's and tubal/lap I had flare-ups of all my auto-immune conditions. It is not fun at all. You will have to give yourself a bit more time than others to recover, and be even more careful not to overdo when you are having a good day. That is my biggest mistake, I feel good and try to catch-up...ooooh I pay for it dearly! Take good careof yourself!

Anyone with Fibromyalgia having surgery???

I haven't got diagnosed with FM yet but I was in the process when I got the surgery. I have a friend who has FM and she had surgery, her recovery was different than others who didn't have it. My post op and recovery was very different than others that had a hyst. I was on three different pain medications in the hospital and it was barely taking care of the pain where as others were hardly needing anything for pain. I went home with pain meds. and took them for two months whereas most of my drs. patients would go home with nothing at all. It is different but not impossible. You will be alright I am sure. If I can do it, anybody can.
