Need input, going under the knife

I was told by doctor to have everything out I have been bleeding for 2 1/2 months i have fibroiods and cysts on both ovaries my stomach looks like i'm 5 months pregnant and i feel miserable. i'm just afraid if i take both ovaries out i'll have horrible changes and i can't have hormones because i have had four blood clots. I'm 49 and have already been going through changes for quite some time. I can't afford to feel like **** where i can't work i'm sole provider for my family. my husband has multiple scelrosis.which makes me have more anxiety about prolonged recovery etc.My mom had cervical cancer and had hysterectomy at age 42. but my mom passed away in 1987. so i don't know if she suffered from surgical menopause. any imput. or any one out there in same position that can give me any imput would be greatly appreciated. My surgery is July 1. I see doctor on June 30. to go over everything. I'm already a risk because i have asthma, copd, blood clots when i was in my 20's.I keep seeing on this web alot of girls ending up going back in to have ovaries out that is what my doctor is worried about . what happened that you guys had to go back in for another surgery.
Dawn good luck any input would be appreciated. my brain is tired of thinking already.

Hi There!

Whether to have healthy ovaries removed at the time of a hysterectomy has both positive and negative possible ramifications. Many women lack clear-cut influences for either choice. My best recommendation is to ask your doctor to explain the pros and cons as they relate to you and your unique medical history, family medical history and other factors.

Best wishes in making the best decision for you!

you have alot on your plate and so much to think about!

i am so sorry for your situation!

i understand what oyu are going thru and that oyu have to take care of so much, but oyu need to take care of YOU! what would happen if you didnt get this done and started feeling better?
I was up and around after week one, i know i shouldnt have and i am still recovering (5 weeks post ) but i went back to work the following monday...although i was able to work from home...

My father has MS and so i understand that stress as well and i so feel for you!

are they going to give you anti coagulants at time of surgery?

check out the hormone oasis and see if maybe there is something you would be able to take and ask your dr about if they were to remove your ovaries...i had mine removed, i have noticed tho that some women dont need hormones and feel amazing after...just do research and talk with your dr...

I hope you get some help and make sure you breath! you need to take care of you!

good luck!

There are a number of natural products on the market to help relieve menopausal symptoms, regardless of whether it's natural or surgical menopause. Perhaps you could discuss them with your doctor? I don't know enough about them to offer any advice, but I'm sure your DR can help. My MIL uses black cohosh for her night sweats and hot flashes and does very well with it. I don't know if there are any risks, especially for you with your clot history. Best of luck with making your decision, and also with your surgery and recovery. Let us know what you decide and how everything goes!

Need input, going under the knife

Hello!

I'm 41 - just had a TAH/BSO on 5/26. I can't take HRT due to suffering a stroke in November.

So far, I have not had any signs of menopause. I know I'm only a little over 2 weeks out from surgery but I'm keeping a positive attitude and believing that this will be the way it is for me. I know there are very real issues with menopause but I also believe whole-heartedly in the power of positive thinking.

There is a very positive/re-assuring chain over on the No-Hormone Desert Oasis board that talks about surgery without HRT. Here is the link:

I had to come off my blood thinners the week before surgery. The evening after my surgery, I got the first of my 3 heparin shots. Beware, they give these in the tummy. They didn't hurt - but sure bruised like all get out. I was started back on my regular blood thinners as soon as I was able to get up and walk (day after surgery). The doc and hospital were wonderful about monitoring the blood thinners, etc.

Best wishes. Stay positive!
