Still hurting after 10 weeks anyone else??

Am I the only one that is still hurting after 10 weeks. I would say that my pain levels in the are anywhere from a 4-6. I have not had any painmeds in two days and I am misserable. It not so bad that I need to go to the hospital but I am very very uncomfortable. I also cant sleep. I think I only slept a total of 3 hours last night and it wasnt a constant sleep, I kept waking up and tossing and turning.
I have switched to a new doc a few weeks ago and now she says she wont renew my script for hydrocodone. She tried to give me tramadol but I am taking Lexapro (anti-depressant) so that was out. I cant take percocet cause I am allergic to it. Does anyone have any suggestions for me out there? I am going in to see her in the morning, it would be nice to maybe suggest something that has worked for others that have gone through the same as I have. Thanks so much ladies

Re: Still hurting after 10 weeks anyone else??

I'm concerned because you had LSH. LSH is usually one of the easier types of hysterectomy to recover from, and 10 weeks seems like a long time to be still having pain. Perhaps your doctor needs to investigate why you are still in pain. It could be any number of things, and pain meds will just mask the pain. In the meantime, perhaps you could take Advil or Motrin to help with the pain tonight.

I'm not sure if your sleeplessness is from insomnia or pain, and I know this doesn't help with pain, but a nice hot cup of Ovaltine sometimes helps me to sleep.

Please let us know what your doctor tells you in the morning.

Re: Still hurting after 10 weeks anyone else??

I completely agree about having the doc. investigate further at this point and possibly getting a second opinion if the first doc. is not interested in investigating further.

Also, sometimes coming off of pain pills, your body will produce more of the original pain to receive more medication. This doesn't just happen to "addicts," but the body can reproduce that pain in anyone. It's sometimes hard to come off of the pain pills and know if it is "phantom pain" or not. Having said that, please know that I am not saying your pain is phantom pain. I understand that I am not in your body and don't know your situation. Just throwing that out there to see if you think it has a connection with you.

Many doctors will allow a double or one and a half times dose of advil on your own, but check with your doc. first. That can be very helpful in stepping down from pain pills.

But regardless, if you are not able to wean off pain pills at this point and are having the amount of pain you are having without it getting steadily better, I would definitely seek answers because you could have complications that need to be dealt with.

Keep us updated.

Take care,

Re: Still hurting after 10 weeks anyone else??

I fully agree you shouldn't be in so much pain, I would be looking at why the pain is there. Yes phantom pains exists..called Neuropathic pain, but it mainly sends pain signals from the wrong parts of the body. I suffer from this after my mastectomy, and I defffinatelly knew that the pain was not related to the surgery.

Good luck hope you get some answers.

Re: Still hurting after 10 weeks anyone else??

Well fearful... you know my situation... I'm still in pain... and taking Percocet and I'm about 8 weeks out...

Saw my "surgeon" yesterday and she examined me saying that I have large granulation tissue (said it looked like grapes) on the rt side of my vaginal cuff... she tried to get some of it off, I think... but says it';s sticking to something behind it! HUH???? So she wants to schedule me for surgery again... NOT! (with her anyways)

Sorry for my venting...

But just realize that the pain is NOT in your head like some want you to believe... IT'S REAL and IT HURTS! And there is a reason for it... if you need to get a third or even fourth opinion.... do it!

BTW... have u had any CT scans or ultrasounds lately that may help find something?

((((BIG HUGS))))

Re: Still hurting after 10 weeks anyone else??

I am so sorry you are going through this. I do agree with the other ladies about the pain meds. Like Catherine said you could always use Motrin or Advil (I think the gel capusles work best).

Are you having pain everywhere or just in the area where you had surgery? I am having severe joint pain but my doctor does not seem too concerned about it which frustrates me. I think he blames it all on my weight but I never had it before surgery.

Keep us updated, you will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Re: Still hurting after 10 weeks anyone else??

Wow, Lisa. Grape sized could even be something actually coming through the cuff, so I'm so glad you're getting a second opinion. My first surgeon didn't know if my grape size prolapse that healed into the cuff was peritoneal tissue or fallopian tube. My new doc. said it probably shouldn't have been cauterized from the vaginal side only (as it was) with silver nitrate. It is stuck to something on the other side for me. The new specialist isn't sure what it is and did a ct scan to try to help her see what it is. I see her thursday to see what the cat scan said. From there, she said, we decide on whether to perform surgery (if it's not cauisng me huge complications, then it may not be worth it for me because I'm so prone to adhesions.)

Keep us updated.

Re: Still hurting after 10 weeks anyone else??

Hey Fearful,

That doesn't sound right at all. Do you think it may be adhesions? I would definitely ask for tests to try and find the cause of your pain. In the mean time dilaudid might work, but I think it's more "high powered" than hydrocodone so I don't know if it's an option or not. You could ask about it when you see the doc. It seems there are way too many doctors who assume our problems are imaginary!! What's up with that?

Memyself, I too have had joint pain since surgery and it was helped when my GYN put me on the Vivelle Dot .1.

Good luck to you both!

Re: Still hurting after 10 weeks anyone else??

Are you taking an anti-inflamitory? That could help a lot. You should see the doctor because while you will not be comfortable yet you should not be at a 6 in pain. Maybe something is going on in there? Are you over doing anything? Lifting things you shouldn't be? Just some thoughts. Take it easy & I hope you feel better soon.
