Hysterectomy 2002, having salpingo-oophorectomy on Oct 8th

I had a hysterectomy in 2002 but I was able to keep both ovaries. This year I have been having issues with ovarian cysts and on Oct 8th I will have a salpingo-oophorectomy.

The surgery was initially scheduled for Oct 24th but last week one cyst ruptured & when my doctor called with a cancelation on Oct 8th I was thrilled. Now I am getting nervous about post-op recovery, returning to work and HRT.

One question ~ my ultrasounds have shown that both of my ovaries are toward the right side. Anyone else have that happen after a hysterectomy? I am hoping that it makes this surgery easier!

Will your surgery be laparoscopic or abdominal? My BSO (both ovaries removed) was laparoscopic, and it was a pretty easy recovery. I was back to work in 2 wks, and off all pain/OTC meds at a week. I didn't start HRT right away but I did finally decide I needed it. It was, for me, a shorter recovery than a hysterectomy. I hope you have an easy recovery.

I had surgery on a torn rotary cuff last spring and had terrible reactions to all types of pain medicine. Everything made me sick; crackers, toast, I couldn't even keep water down for the first few days post-op. Since I was so sick after that surgery I am worried about getting sick after this one. I will bring the list of every pain medicine I tried to my pre-op appointment & hopefully avoid throwing up this time!
