Did you get a second opinion?

I did not get a second opinion ..I found out I had fibroids and decided I wasn't ready to lose any body parts at that time... and also hoped menopause would help solve the problem....

As it turned out the bleeding, clotting and pain did calm down for a short period of time but came back with a vengence, so 5 years later with menopause not in sight I decided it was time for my hysterectomy....

I can truly say it has been the best thing I have ever done for myself, I only wish I would have just done it 5 years sooner instead of waiting....

no 2nd

Hi. Didn't get a second, but felt very secure in the decision. I had an ablation about a year ago which left me with much lighter periods for about 7 or 8 months, but then the heavy ones are back. Reading on the Novasure site and other medical sites, I just decided I did not want a second ablation. So I always knew this was my alternative choice.

Did you get a second opinion?

No, I did not get a second opinion, but I had known that I needed one because a previous dr. had told me I would need one in the near future. I had that dr. for over 6 years and only had seen the dr. that did my TVH for about 2 years. I knew I needed one and was ready to get it over with. I had fibroids and very heavy bleeding and clots that I could feel pass. I do not miss the bleeding at all. I also had bladder problems that caused me to use the bathroom about every 2 hours. Now I can go 4 hours or more without needing to run to the bathroom.

Did you get a second opinion?

No second opinion - And sadly had no symtoms (all tests completed by my
endocrinolgist.) The surgeon gyn/onc completed a BSO for and by her students. I remain devastated.

Did you get a second opinion?

Not sure if this would count as a second option or not, but I had a mymomectomy 13 years ago, and my ob/gyn has been keeping an eye on things every 6 months since then (ultra sounds and office visits), but over the last 3 to 4 years before I had my hysterectomy, my periods were God awful. Not sure how I even survived. Was anemic, going through overnight sanitary napkins every 1 1/2 - 2 hours, had them hidden everywhere, and even had a change of underwear and pants in my desk draw at work, in case of an "accident". In the summer of 2005, my doctor stopped takeing insurance, but I was still able to get my fall ultrasound done, since the place I was going to still took my insurance. When she got my results, she refered me to another ob/gyn who accepted my insurance, and agreed with what the first doctor said. I already knew I was on borrowed time, so the hysterectomy was a blessing in disguise.

Wow, and I thought my periods were bad. You must be so glad that they are done. :confuse: Wow. Thanks for making me realize it could have been even worse.

Did you get a second opinion?

Kara,

As it is for everybody, it was rough going through the hysterestomy, I'm definitly a happy camper!

Not sure which is the best part, being able to wear white/light colored pants again, or when I go away, not having half of my suit case filled with various shapes and sizes of tampons and sanitary napkins! :xmasnana:
