7 weeks post op and need thyroid surgery

Still long way to heal after hysterectomy with complications/ hematoma and bladder / after the surgery and now found out that will need to temove the thyroid. They cannot ruled out the cancer until will do surgery.
Even cannot imaging when may be ready for another surgery.
If any of sisters had experience, please reply.

Thanks a lot.

7 weels post op and need thyroid surgery

I had my thyroid removed in 2001 and it is a piece of cake compared to the TAH/BSO I had in March. You will have a sore throat for a few days but should feel pretty good after a week or so. I was lucky and my endo got my thyroid medication stable after a few weeks. I stayed home from work for 4 weeks but really could have gone back after 2 weeks but I milked it
Good luck to you.

I had a complete thyroid removal in 1999 due to thyroid cancer.
Like GBB, I can say it was a far easier recovery from that surgery than the TAH/BSO I just had a few weeks ago! The only thing I remember negative about it, was that my neck was very stiff for a long time after. They used a "neck extender" on me and I figured that is why I was so tight/stiff. I was only in the hosptial over night and I think I was off of work for 4 weeks.

Most people can not even see my scar unless I point it out to them. I attribute this to a very good surgeon, using vitamin E on the wound once it was closed/healed and keeping out of the sun until completely healed. I had my surgery in the middle of summer, so when I went outside I wore a scarf around my neck to protect me from the sun.

Best of luck to you.

1983 thyroidectomy

wow, that is a long time ago. had thyroid cancer, also went through years and years of ablation therapy. They found signs of Hashimoto's as well as the cancer.

so 20 + years later... problems are mostly other immune related disorders, asthma, fibromyalgia, weight and of course the whole hyster thingy.

the worst thing i suffered from with the thyroid surgery was losing my voice for six months. I still lose it easily.

oh and you will be amazed how often you see the scar now.

check out the thyca site for a group like this one.

good luck

I had my thyroid removed 17 years ago. Like the others it was not as bad as I thought it would be. mine turned out not to be cancer. I was put on sinthroid. I wish you all the best! Also my scar from the thyroid surgery you can't see it at all. I had no pain what so ever afterwards either. I was in hospital for two days. Felt great when I came home. Good luck!
