I week to go, more problems...

Hi All,

I just need someplace to vent and release some anxiety. Surgery is in 1 week. Received a call from MD's office telling me they need to speak with me. When I called back, they found abnormalities with my EKG. I have already been stressed enough between work, trying to get house in order and the impending surgery itself, that I don't need this too. Spoke with OB/GYN today and she said as long as PCP will give clearance then surgery will go as planned. It makes me mad that I had an echocardiogram in March and never heard of any bad results and now this. If I don't have this surgery now then I have to wait til next summer as I restart RN (I'm already an LPN) school on 8-18-03. So even having surgery now is cutting recovery time. I have been crying off and on all day, I feel overly stressed and if I don't get ahold of my PCP tomorrow (I left message today but haven't heard back yet), its going to put my surgery date in jeopardy. Everyone--DH, Family-- all very, very, very supportive and all hoping for surgery date to continue as planned.

On a good note I guess, had urodynamics testing today at appointment. Dr will be doing Burch procedure along with hysterectomy. She doesn't seem to think there wil be a postponement of my surgery as long as my PCP clears me within the next day or so.

Thanks for letting me vent, cry and complain a little. Please keep me in your prayers and hope for the best.

Thanks,
(I hope)

Kim

So sorry you're having a rough time right now, hon. Did you mention to them how very stressed you are? Perhaps your stress is adding to the irregular EKG. I sure hope you get ahold of the PCP tomorrow. Call until your fingers are sore from dialing. Don't let the day go by without speaking with them, okay? Maybe a new EKG will show different results.

Keeping you in my thoughts and Prayers, Kim. Hang in there, hon.

I have been rescheduled 3xs due to abnormal tests results.
KEEP ON THEM they do not care about the fact that you have a life! DO NOT BE PATIENT AND WAIT AROUND.... CALL CALL CALL.
Best of luck.

update

Hi,
Thanks for the encouragement. I did call PCP's office twice this AM before I just went ahead and paged her myself (advantage of being a nurse, but felt as if it was an intrusion). I have a thallium stress test scheduled for Friday, which hopefully will be in time to still have the surgery on Tuesday. Wish me luck and say a prayer. I really have to have this surgery now before the stress kills me.

Thanks,
Kim

Am wondering why the heck you are having a stress test, echo, etc. You must have heart probs? EKGs go "weird" for little reasons, and when redone the "weird" goes away. Tell them to redo it, is what I'd do.

Good for you for LPN to RN. I was in my clinicals (two semesters to go) when I had to quit last fall. Errrgh. Then the surgery. Oh, well.

Good luck.....!!!! In everything!

I week to go, more problems...

Hi, Flower,

The idea of another EKG was not even an option with my PCP, she prefers to go ahead with the stress test. I have never been told I have cardiac problems. Other than SOB at times with my asthma never had any other breathing problems. Although I am more upset about possibly having to cancel surgery than anything alse, my husband thinks I should just have the stress test done and then we would know for sure if there is anything wrong.

Has anyone else had things like this happen that postponed their surgery? Please reply.

Kim
