Bleeding 2 weeks after hysterectomy.

Hi There, I had no bleeding post surgery and at 2 weeks felt terrific. I started walking, walking some hills. at 2 weeks, 2 days I started spotting, then it went to bleeding, no gushing but bright red and only noticed it when I wipe after peeing (definitely from the vagina) and it fills the bowl not opaquely but enough to color it and sometimes some small clots. I called the doc and the back office nurse said I probably was doing too much. I've been laying down resting for 7 days and it stopped yesterday, but today started the same bright red bleeding. Is this within normal range?

Re: Bleeding 2 weeks after hysterectomy.

Hello there constancehubbar

We are happy that you found us!

I am sorry to hear that you going through this. The initial phase of recovery tends to be 4 to 6 weeks. Yes you could be doing a bit too much as you are walking hills. As long as you are not filling a pad within an hour (which would be key to call your doctor and/or go to the ER), spotting can be a normal part of the healing process. Spotting vs Bleeding is a great article that sheds a bit more light on what happens.

After your initial healing period, it could take an additional 4 to 6 months though for some ladies a bit longer to full recover or at least find their new normal. Don’t hesitate to kick your feet up and rest a little extra during each day. You can still get in short even-paced walks throughout your day/week. There are layers of tissue, muscle and nerve-endings that are trying to get re-establish after a disruption in service.

Certainly for peace of mind give your doctor’s office a ring. I know I did any time I had questions.

Please let us know how you are doing sweetie!
