Re: Endometrial biopsy - they lied!!!

I'm really trying to find the right words here and worried about how they might impact people's lives but information is power so here's what happened to me over the last week.

I read about this pain with biopsies on this site over the last week since my concerning ultrasound results during the period that I was waiting to see my GYN for the first time. As a result I was beyond petrified. I didn't eat anything much for the week, had diarrhoea, and panic attacks (yes, I don't respond well the pain) because of some of the horror stories I read.

When I got to the GYN's office I told him I was so petrified of the biopsy. I have never carried a pregnancy full term, and am 56. He said he would never consider doing an in-office biopsy on me, and also acknowledged that they are often very painful and that it wasn't a case of 'google panic' but a rational fear. I said to him that "I bet if they wanted to put something up a man's penis and chop a bit out without anaesthetic things would change quickly", and he laughed and shuddered at the same time and said 'yes, urologists...urgh....I just can't.....'.

So I am having a hysteroscopy under heavy sedation/GA which suits me just fine. I am usually a fairly strong, feminist type woman but when threatened with medical pain I turn into a whimpering little baby. This is up to us surely, it's our body, although practices in different countries are obviously different. I am in Australia and happy that I have this choice. Good wishes to all, now on to stage two for me.

I just had a biopsy last week. It hurt worse than a contraction with my kids. I thought I was gonna puke or pass out. I have had cramping and back pain since. Worst "pinch" I have ever had

Hey whatever anyone's politics may be, we've all got nerve endings. :-) Pain is pain.

Ain't that the truth. I admire people who are strong in the face of pain, genuinely. Just like I admire people who climb Mt Everest (one of my plans for my next lifetime). Just that I could no more do one than the other
