Aromatherapy Will it help?

I would like some information about aromatherapy and
Essential Oils that can be use for pre/post op.

Something to relax the nervousness and discomfort, gas and any other conditions pre/post op.

Thanks for listening.

Aromatherapy Will it help?

Hi Couters, what a great idea for the week before your surgery. I find lavender and chamomoile both very relaxing. You might try your local health food/herbal med store for advice. Here in CA we have Whole Foods and their staff are usually excellent at giving suggestions like that.
Post op, however, is a little iffy. Some of us have experienced temporary changes in the way things smell or taste for a while post op which might make aromatherapy counterproductive then. Still it's worth a try to see if it works for you.
Good luck and
s,
-Linda

I'll agree on before but be cautious afterward

Lavender and chamomile...very gentle and soothing and I had this wonderful Bath and Body Relaxing Bath Salts that had mint in them... I also liked a hazelnut spray I had from there. After the surgery, some of the scents I liked most I no longer wanted--hazelnut afterwards smelled terrible and lavender had a sharp undertone to it. Treat yourself for beforehand and save a little $$ for when you're better and out and about in case you find your tastes (or smell) have changed.

Aromatherapy Will it help?

Sandalwood became very intriguing after my hyst. You know what smells the best to me is my Progesterone cream. Is that wierd, or what? I don't even care if it's working or not- I just love the way it smells! It soothes me, and lifts me up a little.

Things did start tasting and smelling bad, and it turned out I had a yeast infection in my mouth, of all places, from the IV anti-biotics. Acidophilis capsules fixed it.

Aromatherapy Will it help?

DawnMary, Margaret321 & Surferbabe,

Thank you for the information. I do like all the scents, except for peppermint.

I know some Essential Oils help with menopause and I have try them in the bath. They helped with my mood swings and hot flashes. I also found out I am menopausal and need a TVH.
My GYN took me of Estrogin over 2 months ago because of the surgery, so I have been trying Aromatherapy.

I will check out my scent and smell after the surgery and see if I still can use aromatherapy.

I know that when I was pregnant with each of my 3 children , I had nausa & vomiting (because of smells), for the whole 8 months. All my children arrived before, on or just after the 8th month.

Thanks again!!!
