4 days post hysterectomy - gas and sleeping position concerns

Hi everyone. This is my first time posting In here. Sorry if this question has been asked before but I was just wondering how long it took for the awful gas to finally disapate? I had my keyhole surgery on wednesday (kept my ovaries) and have been feeling not so bad except for the awful bloating in my abdomen. I have been doing the excerises that the physio in hospital has suggested but I just can't seem to get rid. been finally able to open my bowels this morning which was a relief bit it hasn't moved the uncomfortable feeling. I was also wondering about sleeping positions. is it ok to lay on your side? laying in bed to sleep is not the most comfortable thing to do. All in all I'm feeling ok and this has been much better than anticipated. I think the hardest part is sitting around and not being able to do anything. I wish everyone else a speedy recovery.

Re: 4 days post hysterectomy - gas and sleeping position concerns

I'm only 2 days post op but I was told that laying on my side, if comfortable, can help resolve some of the gas pains. Also a heating pad has helped me. I felt the gas trapped in my right rib cage and shoulder and it hurt! I was able to lie on my side for a little last night. Maybe try putting a pillow between your knees if you sleep on your side. Good luck!

Re: 4 days post hysterectomy - gas and sleeping position concerns

I slept on my side starting the first night after surgery. :-) I was really loopy from the anesthetics and narcotics and just curled up on my side and went to sleep without thinking twice about it. The next night I was a little more alert and felt better with a pillow tucked against my belly.

I slept on my side until day 13, when I got my staples out. After that I slept on my stomach.

Re: 4 days post hysterectomy - gas and sleeping position concerns

Thanks for the advice. The gas seems to be passing today so I think I will attempt to lay on my side tonight with the advice of a pillow. no staples here just dissolvable stiches from the 3 *stab wounds* as the consultatant referred to them. ☺. Thanks again for the advice
