Fever & teary

Hi everyone

I had my LAVH on 26th September. So I am Day 10.
I have had elevated temperatures & was started on Keflex but had a severe reaction to it. So now just starting Bactrim...so far no reaction yet but still febrile.
Also, I just cry for no reason.
Pain is spasmodic.
Gynae said that the operation went smoothly.
Just don't understand why I feel this way!
I was an active person prior to the surgery & worked part-time.( I am a RN)
I am just over it!

Re: Fever & teary

Hi,
I think between the fever, the pain, and the hormones, plus exhaustion from surgery, you are to be expected to be a little emotional (or a alot-thats me). Please dont beat yourself up. You are still early in your recovery, and the healing is going to take time.
Sending you hugs :>

Re: Fever & teary

I don't have a clue about having such horrible diarreah.....as I am still very constipated. Do you have a fever? The first thought was maybe you just did a great job with trying to manage the constipation and it is just working its way through you.....but I can only imagine how miserable you must be with that. So sorry, I would call dr for sure just to make sure..

Re: Fever & teary

hi Patti

I only had diarrhoea after taking the Keflex.

The gynae has put me on Bactrim now, so far only nausea, flushing & shaking.

I will know in 24 hours if it is working.

Re: Fever & teary

If you had diarrhea after taking the keflex you either were sick from an organism, or somewhat allergic to the Keflex.
If you still have a fever, the antibiotics are not working and you may need something stronger.

Maybe Cipro or a stronger antibiotic given I.V. or I.M. in the E.R.

Sorry you are not feeling well and have a fever.
If this persists, something is wrong. Go to the E.R.

Good Luck.

Re: Fever & teary

Hi Suziq55

It was definitely a reaction to the keflex as I had cramping & vomiting too. All stopped when I stopped the keflex.

I am waiting to see if the bactrim ds works. I have only had 3 doses so far & no change.
I am allergic to penicillin on top of all of this.
Thanks for your advice.

I don't know what the newer Im/IV drugs are, but you may be able to tolerate it better if it were given to you in a different route, other than by mouth. That is, if the Bactrim DS doesn't work.

Re: Fever & teary

Hi
I have taken myself off the Bactrim but have let my gynecologist know.
I couldn't cope with the constant nausea.
I am monitoring my temp & if it rises significantly I am to contact my gynecologist ASAP .
So far only low grade tens of 37.6C to 37.8C (98.6 to 100.1)but time will tell.

Re: Fever & teary

If you are vomiting the Bactrim, you aren't getting much in your system anyway.....Better to call the doctor and get another oral drug started if you don't want to go to the ER yet.
The doctor can call it in to your pharmacy. Have you tried Cipro yet? I don't think Cipro is a penicillin. What about Keflex (I think Keflex is a cephalosporin)?

Good Luck.
