Bloating after Vaginal hysterectomy/SSC

I am just wondering if anyone has had the experience of abdominal bloating after a vaginal hysterectomy. I also had a sacral spinous colpoplexy (vaginal "suspension"). My bowels are fine and I am not unwell. I am managing with just mild pain killers 2 and a half weeks post surgery but my tummy is so bloated I can only wear my old maternity clothes ! Aagh!I realize bloating can happen after abdominal surgery but mine was vaginal without laparoscopy, so no air was introduced either. I have talked to Dr who said start on acidophilus capsules which have helped a little bit but I still feel like a beach ball...

Re: Bloating after Vaginal hysterectomy/SSC

I had abdominal hyster on April 9th and I still have a huge stomach, I always thought I had a fat stomach, now I realize I actually had a flat stomach and now I want it back! They call it swelly belly and from what I hear it can last up to 4 mos. Actually I was thinking about buying maternity clothes to wear because I dont have any clothes to go outside the house in. I wear huge pajama pants and sweats around the house but I can't go out like that. I think it takes time for it to go down, it is not weight gain from what I understand it is just your bodies way of protecting from the incision and surgery. I am dealing with it and hope it goes down before summer. I really don't want to wear maternity clothes for 4 mos, but we will see.
Also, if you over do it your stomach will swell more, I did dishes and made some soup one day and by the end of the day it was huge. So just try to rest if you feel it keeps getting bigger. Good luck, I am 2 weeks out of surgery and I am finally starting to feel better, still sore and slow getting around but also taking it easy. Take care

Re: Bloating after Vaginal hysterectomy/SSC

I had a vaginal hyster and bladder sling on the 8th and I have some pretty good swelling in my belly. Some days are better then others as to how large I look. All I can say is just go slow and don't over do it.

Re: Bloating after Vaginal hysterectomy/SSC

My understanding is that part of the swelling is from the trauma of the surgery. Just like a sprained ankle swells. So that wouldn't matter the method of surgery. I had TAH 6 days ago, and they don't blow you up like a balloon with that. I have a huge swelly belly. It's even making my staples pop out and look all crooked. When I'm not swollen, they are straight. I can't wear anything with a waistband yet. No sweats, no yoga pants, no panties. Just a long night shirt.

Re: Bloating after Vaginal hysterectomy/SSC

i had a vaginal hysterectomy about a week and a half ago...and today was the first time i really noticed how swollen my tummy is...it is kinda freaking me out....i can barely get into my old shorts and stuff...yikes! i hope it does go away...this is very discouraging especially when this is the area i have always had the most problem with when it came to losing weight....any more comments or encouragements are always welcome!

Re: Bloating after Vaginal hysterectomy/SSC

I had a TVH on June 30th. I had a swelly belly for a couple of weeks and even still it swells up by the end of the day. I guess it's our bodies way of dealing with the trauma of surgery. I hope it calms down before I have to go back to work as I have nearly no clothes that fit.

Good luck
Fiona.
