TAH/BSO this Summer (stage 4 endometriosis and Chrons disease)
I am hoping for an improvement in my quality of life (emotionally, physically, mentally, & sexually). I have stage 4 severe/deep infiltrating & very progressive endometriosis. What complicates things further is I have had 8 "open" abdominal surgeries for Crohns disease, so the adhesions are multiplied, and my bowel has perforation twice. I am 39 years old. I remember when I enjoyed sex, but now every position hurts, I am exhausted all the time - I know when all this started, I really do remember when I used to be able to do.............I really hope I regain this at some point after the hysto. One thing is for sure, it can't get worse.

I am so sorry you are dealing with all of this. That is a lot on one persons plate. I am going to tweak your title a bit to get the attention of our other endo ladies. They will gladly offer their experiences and support.

We are glad you have found us and hope we can offer you helpful hysterectomy and endometriosis support! Having a stage IV endometriosis diagnosis myself, my goes out to you.
Are you having surgery with a surgeon who specializes in treating endometriosis? That type of doctor is the mostly likely to offer you an optimal outcome. Sadly, many OB/GYN's simply do not have the skills necessary to locate and expertly remove all existing endometriosis. As long as any endometriosis is missed, it can continue to grow and spread, causing pain and symptoms, even if there is no uterus and no ovaries.
To learn more about endometriosis, please feel free to pop over to our Endometriosis Support forum.
For specific information about preparing for a hysterectomy, you may want to read through our Pre Op Articles. But remember, a hysterectomy is not a cure for endometriosis.

I am having my surgery through a hospital where they have an endo clinic, and will also have a GI surgeon to watch/work on my bowel. I feel SUPER confident in the docs abilities and I feel good about the surgery, I know it is time!
Thank you -

Hey Super!
I just wanted to drop by and let you know that I know how you feel! I was dx with Crohn's in 2005. I am scheduled for my LSH on May 24th.
I am pretty concerned about the Crohn's impact on this surgery. When I had my ablation done- my bowels never woke up and I got impacted. I ended up spending 3 days in the hospital due to the problem. I have NEVER experienced anything like constipation- let alone impaction! Like most "Crohnies" I am at the other end of the spectrum....usually can't get far from the toilet!
This go round I will be doing a full colon prep before hand and my GI and Gyn will be working closely to monitor me post- op.
I will be thinking of you! Know that you are not alone with the Crohn's disease and hysterectomy!
All the best!

Thanks for the support! Hope your LSH goes well. I can't do any Lap surgeries because of all my previous surgeries. My crohns has been in FULL remission for about 7 years now. Had 14" of my terminal illeum removed 9 years ago.

Re: TAH/BSO this Summer (stage 4 endometriosis and Chrons disease)
Hi Supa, was diagnosed with Crohns disease 20years ago & last year diagnosed with stage iv endo. I'd always controlled the Crohns through meds & v strict diet & was attempting the same with endo. Hasn't worked! However, after adhesions removed during initial lap I had first ever relief from Crohns symptoms without meds. Scheduled for unilateral oomphorectomy & LAVH in June as endo symptoms returned quickly but Crohns symptoms def not as severe as previous. Unsure if this has been influenced by endo diet?? Will keep you posted!
