Anxiety about July 2 surgery

Hey everyone. I'm new to the forum, but very thankful I found you guys. I am scheduled for a laproscopic total hysterectomy on July 2.
I have two boys, ages 15 and 11.
I am also recently divorced - a survivor of a 15-year abusive marriage. (verbal, emotional, psychological and sexual)
I am now in a healthy relationship with the best and sweetest man in the world.
I am a bit nervous about the finality of a hysterectomy, however, my health issues would probably keep me from having another child. I have more than 6 combined autoimmune diseases including MCTD (lupus, sjogren's and raynauds), celiacs, fibromyalgia, RA, thyroid disease ... I also have asthma and a severe allergy to wheat.
I worry that my health will make recovery more difficult. In MCTD - the immune system mistakes healthy tissues/muscle for a foreign object and attacks.
An injury or major trauma can cause a flare.
I am concerened that my hysterectomy may cause a flare -- making recovery more difficult.
My doctors are all aware of my illnesses and seem to be working together to make it a smooth transition, but being that I work full time and I'm a single mom -- I'm just a little concerned about recovery (more so than the surgery itself.)
Just wondering if there is anyone else out there who has had a hysterectomy and also suffers from Lupus, MCTD (mixed connective tissue disease) or any other form of autoimmune disease.
My surgery is scheduled for July 2 at 7:30am.
I had my pre-op yesterday.
Getting closer and I'm feeling more and more anxious every day. Any advice is welcomed!!!! Thanks!

Re: Anxiety about July 2 surgery

Hi Allie,
I am also scheduled for my surgery on July 2nd at 7:30 a.m. I have autoimmune issues although not as severe as yours. I really trying these few weeks ahead of time to eat well, get my sleep, and trying (although not too well) to keep my stress level low. I know that not doing those things always make me feel worse. I'm having difficulty with pain from polyarthritis since I can't my my NSAIDS two weeks before the surgery. I'm glad to hear that you have a good team of people working together to help you through this. This forum is also a wonderful group of sisters. Let's hope these next ten days go quickly.

Re: Anxiety about July 2 surgery

Hi ladies :-) I too am scheduled for surgery July 2 and very nervous as well. I have chronic Lyme Disease as well as toxic mold exposure so my immune system is compromised as well. I am concerned about the recovery process too as my health issues are of some concern.

It is wonderful Allie that you have a great team of doctors as that is crucial in situations such as ours. I just wanted you to known that you aren't alone and that you have support.

We are in this together!

Re: Anxiety about July 2 surgery

Hey, Allie, I'm scheduled for surgery July 11th. I too have autoimmune diseases too. I have Thyroid disease and my big one is Psoriasis. Stress is a "major trigger". I know It's hard, but try not to stress out, that, makes things worse. I too can get injured and I have major flair with my Psoriasis. It's very hard to manage. Good luck, hope all goes well for you. Hang in there!
