Hey, ladies, I'm new here!

First of all, I just want to say I'm grateful there's a community like this where women can talk so openly and freely about such personal matters. I'm 32 and have suffered from painful and heavy periods all my life. About 3 years ago, they started increasing in length as well. I've had what appears to be a failed endometrial ablation to stop my 15 day periods. I'm tired of bleeding, tired of not being able to play with my kids and just tired of being tired all the time. Today, I'm on day 7 of my period and just drained. I go to my gynecologist on Friday, and I'm sure he's going to schedule my hysterectomy. He's already told me that's the next step. It appears to be my only treatment option. I've had all the children I'm going to have. My husband is so very supportive and understanding of my "hormonal meltdowns". I'm very lucky in this regard. It's still a tough and emotional decision to make, though, but I feel like I'm making the right one. I look forward to reading more of your stories and welcome any thoughts of encouragement and tips you may have to offer!

Hey, ladies, I'm new here!

Hi Jenny,

Hope you find wonderful information here. I have found this website and some new friends from here to be a God send. I was wondering if your doctor has checked your iron. You mentioned that you were feeling drained and if you're bleeding that much, you may be anemic. A good iron supplement can do wonders (I've been taking one since the end of January) with the way you feel. Best wishes with the decisions that you'll be making.

Thanks

Thank you so much for the warm welcome!

Debbie, when I had my ablation in November my iron levels were only 1 point above the lower side of the normal range...I forget what that is now...and I hadn't bled in 10 days at that time. Since then, I've been taking OTC iron supplements to help with the fatigue.

Both my mom and sister had early hysterectomies for dysfunctional uterine bleeding so I'm kind of genetically pre-disposed to these probs.

Christy, good luck with your appointment on Monday. I'll look for your update!

Jenny
