Why not red jello?

I thought I'd read on here that you should avoid red jello during bowel prep. My papers say during the liquid diet, plain jello. Does that mean any color is ok?

Why not red jello?

I think the reason you shouldn't eat red jello is if there a problem there could be difficulty disquishing blood from the red jello. I think I would stay on the safe side and eat yellow, orange, or green.

Why not red jello?

the difference between red jello and other colours is the red dye can cause problems, some people are allergic to it, others suffer hyperactivity or depression like symptoms when they consume it, it can also impede your recovery if you are sensitive to the red dye, and it isn't as "clear" of a fluid as other dyes, if you were required to go for any scans or ultrasounds, it may make things a little cloudy

Why not red jello?

I was given red jello in the hospital as part of my liquid diet, but I'm not allergic to anything and don't have problems with red dye.....so I really wouldn't know. I know this doesn't help.....haha.

no red dye's

Foods that contain red dye should be avoided. This is so that there is not chance of the red dye being mistaken for something bad. One thing to try is the Crystal light lemon aid I mixed that with the gallon of liquids that I had to drink. You may want to clarify with your Doctor.

good luck,

Why not red jello?

When I was in the castle I sooooo wanted popsicles and the only ones they would give me was orange, and of course I Hate orange! I sent my DH on a search through the castle for a red or purple popsicle and he then had a student nurse searching too. Of course they couldn't find any then the student nurse asked others if they knew where she could find me one. The response back was that they don't give anything out with red dye in it because if something came out in your urine or bm's red they would then have to try to distinguish between the dye and blood...no red dye elimates the guessing and testing. I assume it would be the same for jello as I only got yellow in the castle.....

First thing I told DH was to go out and buy me popsicles as soon as I got home....I ate every red one LOL!
