Walking 6 weeks post op

Since surgery I have done exactly as told and have slowly built up walking each day. I now walk for an hour a day along the flat surface. I haven't walked for 3 days as was feeling under weather and did go yesterday twice. I have woken up this morning feeling very stiff and sore from the top of my hips across and down to heel ( which was very painful) . It is easing once up and about a little.
I am approx 5 stone overweight but have always walked and not experienced this before. My thoughts are that it is using muscles that have been relaxing since surgery so I will be stiff and sore. Surgery was difficult too as they had to remove large fibroids and uterus was stuck deep in pelvic are on right hand side which is where the stiffness is. I also have some numbness on this side of bottom caused by spinal.
I am presuming that gentle exercise will aid recovery and this will pass as weeks go on. I think it is improving to what it was a couple of weeks ago.
Is this normal?

Hi it could be that your muscles are still building themselves back up and that going out twice yesterday just overdid it after 3 days of not walking. I am 4 months on and still find I get sore muscles or aches and pains with any exercise that is even slightly more or different from what I have been doing. As for heel pain, that may be a foot issue. Have you needed orthotics or a foot insole before? If it doesn't go away in a day or two, perhaps check with your GP or a podiatrist.

I think I remember you being in UK from other posts. Even colder weather can make muscles stiffer.

Hope your recovery gets back on track.

Re: Walking 6 weeks post op

Hi
I am finding I have a new pain developing over the last month, it's linked to my right hip and is a lot worse when I sit down for too long at my desk. I am using pilates and walking to ease it. I am a big fan of using walking to keep pain at bay and keep joints mobilised.
i think the new pain is linked to the fact that the TAH chopped through my lower abs thus putting more strain on my lower back and hip muscles. (they normally work together) I have been trying to build back the chopped muscle and it is getting more responsive each week (started at week 6 now at week 15 or so) I can now do most of the ab exercises, though am careful how hard I work and how many reps. Most exercises centre around lying on your back and lifting your legs in different movements, even just lifting alternate feet, with knees bent will help build this muscle. I also make sure I get out of my chair at least once an hour and have a walk around.

Lost the plot on what I was trying to tell you, haha, see the brain fog doesn't go off for a while!! Keep up the walking, but your heel thing sounds like something else, have you got supportive shoes?

Re: Walking 6 weeks post op

I walk a lot, and I had more back pain between 2 and 3 moths post-op. However, it's been better recently, and I walked over 5 miles yesterday without major problems.

I think some pain late in recovery isn't that odd.
