mini periods
I will be 6 weeks post op tomorrow. Last night I noticed a little bit of red blood on my toilet paper and more this morning. A small amount made it to my panty liner. I have not had any discharge or bleeding since about 3 days after my surgery. I had some pms-like smyptoms last week and I am feeling some crampyness like I used to have with my periods.
I haven't done anything to strain myself. My dr cleared me for all normal activity at my 4 week check.
Could this by a mini period? Before I decided to keep my cervix, I asked my dr's nurse about this and she said there is not endrometrial lining in the cervix so there would be no mini periods.
After reading the "I want my cervix back" posts I think I would have kept mine - my dr gave me the choice.
I am wondering what to expect from these mini periods, if this is one.

mini periods
Hi Jennilyn,
Sounds like it might be a mini-period. I have to disagree with your nurse even though I am not a Dr. No pun intended!!
From what I have read, if one or both ovaries are retained during surgery and if endometrail tissue is left on the cervix during a hyst, it can cause a mini-period to occur.
I had my cervix cauterized with my LSH and I have not had a mini-period in my 10 months post-op. And from what I have read on H.S., a mini-period just requires a monthly panty liner. I have seen several SAH ladies post who have a mini-period and they say it is not bad at all. Just very light.
Best wishes,
Mary

mini periods
I believe that your nurse is wrong.
I'm sure that your doctor cauterized or cored out the remaining uterine tissue from your cervix, but sometimes they miss a bit. My doctor, who said that she cored out my cervix said that it's possible that the endometrium that's causing my bleeding is in the little channel between the outside of the cervix and the inside of the cervical pouch.
It will take 3 or 4 cycles before you know for sure.
I have found that it's not much trouble at all. I've been keeping pretty close track of my cycles and can anticipate my bleeding. It's usually only a bit when I wipe but I wear a panty liner (and have needed it on occassion). Mine lasts about four days.
Some women have mini-periods but find that they get lighter and lighter over time and perhaps in a year or two, go away completely.
Talk to your doctor if you have another visit soon about trying to find the endometrium - I've heard that it can sometimes be treated with a bit of silver nitrate to get rid of the bleeding. Or, like me, just use it as a monthly reminder that your ovaries are still cycling normally.
Take care.
