insomnia after 2 months

Hi. I had a total hysterectomy on June 26 and am 59 years old, so I was really menopausal before. I am generally feeling good, except for some soreness, but have insomnia. I have some ambien left, and it usually helps (although I have had a few sleepless nights with it). Will this stop? I teach and have to go back to work soon, and am getting discouraged. Is there anything I can do? Do any over-the-counter meds work? I would like to get off the ambien, but I tried, and I couldn't sleep. Thanks.

I am not a dr but I bet that your ovaries were still maybe functioning to some degree.

After my TAH, (ovaries kept) my ovaries were slow to start working. We don't know yet if they are functioning or not. I am taking Premarin .625 for at least another six months and then my dr will reevaluate.

I was having sleepless nights, mood swings, exhaustion and night sweats. If I did manage to fall asleep it was with help from Xanax. And I could only sleep in short spurts. When I started on the Premarin, all that started to go away. Within a matter of a few days, I could fall asleep and stay asleep.

Maybe you should call your GYN and discuss what is going on. You may need a little extra help for a short time.

Hugs to you. I hope things get better. Keep us posted and let us know how you are doing.

I'm still not sleeping...only a couple hours a night.
I've tried a few different things, OTC and prescription, but nothing works for me.
I'm 13 weeks today so don't know if the insomnia will ever end.
