Question on TVH post-op recovery time for at-home desk job

I have a TVH scheduled for August 29th for uterine prolapse and rectocele I didn't even know I had. Bladder apparently is okay and keeping my ovaries. I have had four prior abdominal surgeries for various things through life, so kind of know what to expect with those, but not sure about the vaginal recovery. I work from home, sitting at a desk feet away from my bed all day editing transcripts. Just wondering about ideas of when I can expect to be able to sit at a desk to work, with as many breaks/naps as I need. I have clients who count on me as their only editor but in no way do I want to overdo it. Seems the 6-week time frame is often for those on their feet which I haven't worked since a teen. Thanks!

Re: Question on TVH post-op recovery time for at-home desk job

I work from home on the computer (I'm also an editor). I was able to do a few things about a week after surgery. I had a DaVinci hysterectomy (no repairs) and was off the pain meds within a few days. I definitely can't work on pain meds. I know from experience I don't do a good job when I'm in pain or when I'm taking strong painkillers. The last thing I wanted to do was jeopardize my standing with my clients.

For the first few weeks I was very tired, but was able to do a few hours here and there. I took naps most days and only worked when my mind was clear and I wasn't in pain. By about the second week I could do a few hours a day. By week four I had a project to do and put in a full week. It did tire me out and I had to take some long naps on the weekend.

Of course, everyone heals at a different rate, but I didn't find it hard to sit at the computer for a few hours by the second week.

I hope your surgery and recovery go well!

Re: Question on TVH post-op recovery time for at-home desk job

TheLotus, thank you so much for your reply! Sounds like we have very similar circumstances. I'm hopeful I will be able to sit at my desk if only for short periods of time for proofreading. Generally, I'm one to get off pain meds pretty quick and feel like I'm in pretty good shape going in, so we shall see. I'll probably be heading back to bed often for naps but nice to be able to pace myself working at home.
