Medication question about epdiural/spinal combo

One week to go, and I had a chat with my A man. He knows I want an epidural/spinal and is fine with that, but said that in addition to the Versed he would give me "the same sedative we use for general, but less of it." I'm not thrilled about this, because I don't want to be out cold, just relaxed and sleepy. Also, I wonder if the lighter dose of the general sedative will still make me groggy and possibly nauseated, things I want to avoid. Has anyone else had a spinal with a sedative stronger than Versed, and what were the effects?

Medication question about epdiural/spinal combo

I had General and Epidural anesthesia. The epidural was left in after surgery for pain control. I woke up with absolutely no abdominal pain.

If you are concerned about post-op nausea, talk to them about nausea medications.. there's a very good one, called Zofran I think.

There will be some grogginess, but you'll come out of it fairly quickly.

You don't say what kind of hyst you are having, but I don't think I'd want to have organs removed without some general anesthesia.

Hope this helps. Good luck to you.
