Ride home

To those that can help with this topic. My DP wants to take his truck to the hospital on the day of surgery, I am suppose to be outpatient and going home as long as I can pee after surgery. The truck is the smoothest riding vehicle we have. My car is a 4 door grand am and his truck is a regular size Chevy silvardo ext cab. I am worried about being able to get up in the truck and he is worried I will have a harder time getting in and out of the car. Which vehicle do you recommend. And for those whom have had a TVH should I purchase a heating/ cooling pad to have with me at home and upon my return to work?

Re: Ride home

Outpatient really? I didn't know they would do tvh that way. Are you using davinci or laproscopic? Anyway to your question. I had tvh and rode home 18hrs later in a Sierra. I used a full sized feather pillow between my belly and the seatbelt. I also held the seatbelt with my hands so it was not laying against my belly if he had to hit the brakes. I purchased the belt thing from this site. It comes with 2 hot/cold packs. I only used cold on my belly for a few days. Back pain and gas were my worst enimies the first few days. I would recommend heat for the back and ice for the belly. Gas EX!!! And stool softner due to narcodics for the first week. And use your arms to help pull yourself into the truck. I had no problems.

Good luck to you!! Smile the end is in site.

Re: Ride home

If your truck has no running board, have him bring along a footstool to help you get in. You'll definitely want a pillow for your belly, maybe another to sit on as well. You'll also want to be able to recline the seat some.

Re: Ride home

I vote for the truck (with stool) too, since I think it would be easier on your abs (and DH if he needs to help) to climb up/slide down with help than get out of a low seat. Definitely remember the pillow!

Re: Ride home

Thanks ladies and he brought home a plastic box from work to use as a step stool to get in the truck. Sounds like he has checked out things more than I thought he had. I am ready to get this over and be home recovering.
