Time to decide

I have been given the option for a hysterectomy for about 15 years and I am only 37. But I think I have had enough. I have had laperoscopy for endo, a rotor-router technique for a small fibroid in the uterus, nasty hormonal drugs and pregnancy drugs to try and get pregnent, )Couldn't go beyond clomid - too many big cysts) and every conceivable test known to doctors.

This is all because of 16 years of painful intercourse, sharp pain in ovaries due to breaking ovary cycsts, and for the last three years bleeding 20 out of 30 days of a cycle. We are talking seven days of heavy period followed by a discharge for 13 more days. If I do any physical activity (even 5 situps) or have an internal exam I bleed. I am also anemic - I need a to get myself a portable heater). I have had enough! I want to live again.

The only downside is that I do not have children and always wanted children, but as screwed up as my system has been, I always knew that deep down it wasn't in the cards for me.

I am so glad to have found this site. I thought I was the only one who wanted to take stock in tampax, KY jelly and underwear manufacturers. I had to switch doctors because my old doctor won't carry my HMO anymore. I see the new doctor today, and want to discuss my options to solve this problem for good. I don't want something that works temporarily or until you stop taking the drugs, or something that might come back, I've already been through that.

Sorry that this is sooooo long, but I just had to get it out of my system, probably due to fear of the unknown.

Thanks for listening.

Welcome!

Hi, Pianoteacher! Welcome to HysterSisters--best site for support and comfort and info. It sounds like you've gone through a lot, and like a lot of us, you're ready to permanently get rid of those bleeding/pain problems! It is a sorrow, though, to know you can't have babies. You might want to post on Aching Hearts and talk with those ladies, where other sisters are grieving in that area. Hope your new dr is compassionate and competent, and that you will feel very comfortable with him/her. Have your drs recommended having your ovaries removed also, since infertility, and taking fertility drugs can increase risk for ovarian cancer? I'm sure your overall health will greatly improve after a hyst, and if you decide to go through with it now, the sisters here will support you all the way. Post questions that you think of and read all you can on this site (pull-down menus on the home page, and "search" at the top of this page for topics of interest to you). Hugs and best wishes to you!

Time to decide

HI,

I also have no children and my age is 38. After 5yrs of heavy bleeding, being anemic and almost feeling like I was loosing control, and going through 2 surgeries to try to relieve my problem due to fibroids I am finally pain free. I feel great and look forward to getting my life back.
