Uterine Biopsy

I saw my doctor this week and she said that she thinks I'm a good canidate for LAVH. However, she wants to do a uterine biopsy first (this Monday) to rule out uterine cancer. This scares me more than the surgery. The instrument that she showed me looks like it's long enough to stab me in the brain!! She said to take some motrin about an hour before I come in to help with pain. Does this sound right? Am I worrying about nothing?

I am kind of assuming that you are having an endometrial biopsy. Really, don't worry about it. You will only feel some poking, proding, maybe a pinch, some cramping. It over really quick. Something like a Pap smear. Really nothing too bad. The Motrin is to help the cramps before hand. I did it without Motrin and really didn't have much in the way of discomfort. If you're used to cramps, really, it's not that big of deal. Take a sanitary napikin along with you. You will bleed some afterwards. My doc had the thick mattress type that I passed on. I always carry and thin modern version with me just in case Aunt Flo presents herself unexpectedly. You might want to consider tucking one in your purse/pocket before hand.

Uterine Biopsy

I had one last year. I do definately recommend taking the motrin! Also don't plan to do much the rest of the day. I had mine in the am and pretty much was cramping all day. I wasn't told about the Motrin ahead of time and so it did cause some pain, but it is so quick, it took the dr like 5 minutes. I was in and out of the drs in about 15 minutes.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Uterine Biopsy

Hi Debbie, I can understand your concern. I had a biopsy on some uterine tumors and I was very nervous also. It was really not bad. I did have some pain afterwards but some fairly mild perscription pain meds handled it for me. You might want to call your dr and ask about having a perscription ready for you in case you need it. I also had a little bleeding for awhile.

Did your dr advise you to have someone with you to drive you home? I would not have been able to drive myself.

My pathology results were benign, I'll pray that your's are also !

Best wishes, please let us know how you do.

Uterine Biopsy

I also had a biopsy for Uterine Fibroids .. I got to my Doctor's appointment with the Gyno and he decided to do a biopsy on the fibroids .. the nurse gave me 2 Ibuprofin immediately before the Doctor came into the room (they act more quickly then Tylenol) and said I would have bleeding and cramping for the rest of the day. She said to keep taking Ibuprofin throughout the day as needed. The Doctor also found and removed a Cervical Polyp at the same time.

The removal of the Polyp and the Biopsy did not hurt. More like a pinch. The bleeding was no where near what I have had in a heavy period. And the cramping was quite uncomfortable but, to tell you the truth, I had much worse cramping in my early years with just my normal periods.

I drove myself to work afterwards with no problems whatsoever .. and stayed at work for the full day and then picked my husband up and we went for an appointment with his Cardiologist which took a while.

In my opinion you will do just fine ... !!!

I've had two endometrial biopsies. They're not that bad, really. The doctor will dilate your cervix, then insert the instrument which will pinch off a small piece of tissue. You will feel a pinching cramping sensation for a few minutes, which may be very uncomfortable. Just breath slowly and deeply and try to concentrate on something else during that time.

It does help if you do take Motrin before you go, and you may also want to have someone with you to drive you home, though after both the procedures I had, I was able to drive myself. I had the second biopsy on during my lunch break, then drove back to work and finished out the day. You may also have some mild cramping and spotting for a couple of days, which Motrin will usually help.

Best wishes and s,

Lisa

I don't want to scare you, but some people feel a little pinch, and some like me, felt pain. I would definitely take the Motrin before
you go in. I had two biopsies, but I had a huge fibroid with my
uterus terribly enlarged. Also, I was having hemorrhaging anyway
from the fibroid and adenomyosis; so, afterward the second time,
I felt a gush of blood. I hope your experience is like the other
sisters here who only felt a pinch.
