Surgery without a diagnosis?

For me, I struggles through the last 22 years looking for a diagnosis (i'm now 36). all other doctors told me it was in my head and would send me to a psychiatrist and give me prozac and question my marriage and decision to have kids. Me get a second opinion? I had a hard enough time getting a first opinion and don't want to waste another 10 years searching for answers. I'm having a hyst on March 2. This was discussed after my family practitioner (only doc who heard me and said that we'd get to the bottom of it - I think i'll send him a Starbucks card when i'm done!) did a couple of ultrasounds - each showing a fibroid tumor and a tipped uterus. He then sent me to a gyn that is one of the top in the area who then did a laparoscopy to check for endo. none. We think that I may have adeno since I have heavy bleeding, clots that push out the tampons and extreme pain during my periods (which are very regular - every 31 days to the hour). We discussed other options (lupron, myomectomy, D&C) but he even said those would be temporary and I suggested hyst. He said that would be the end result after all the tests anyway so we bypassed those and went straight to the hyst. So, yes, I've had tests before a hyst was diagnosed. I don't think I would feel as comfortable about it as I do now if I had not done the ultrasound or the lap.

Surgery without a diagnosis?

I am scheduled for a LAVH on 2/24 based solely on my symptoms and inability to get rid of them.
My doc told me after a pelvic exam that I would have to have "something surgical" done in the somewhat near future for moderate prolapse. He was however, "not ready to do this" until we tried other alternatives, most likely because I am relatively young, 33, and have three young kids at home. Took the mini-pill for four months as a treatment for the horrible pain and pressure I have about 2 1/2 weeks out of the month. This was no help and has just prolonged the inevitable. I think I may have some endo as well but doc didn't want to do surgery to find out. I guess it doesn't really matter now. I will have to have some "bladder work" as well but haven't had a pre-op yet to find out exactly what they will do.
Unfortunately, I think sometimes you have to press the problem with your doctor. His nurse told me (after the fifth time I had talked to them about this) that "he wasn't the one carrying around that nasty uterus so he should not decide when it needs to go". Thank God for the nurse. I was on my way to the urologist the next week.
I hope all goes well with you and you find much relief and feel much better.
